Spellsinger Career ability

Hey there,
I was thinking about starting a spellsinger game, but a friend of mine did and we cant quite figure out how to charge the career ability? Does anyone know? It cant be that you have to get to a perk in T2 to start with it charged or to then charge it with forest spirits attacks right?

I think it should be dealing spell damage to charge your CA
