Progress career?

How do you progress your career? Currently doing the grey lord wizard career, but uncertain how to progress it.
And anyone knows why the mind control ability just says "ability not charged" even after the cooldown has gone to 0

Check the career tab in your character screen. As for mind control, when the CD ends you can begin charging it by dealing spell damage
