Which lore makes the most sense to pick if you wanna smack some enemies

All lores have some damage spells, light and life probably the more supporting ones
Metal (the hounds spell) is super effective when enemies gather together. Mind control (career ability) is excellent when you max it, as it makes scaling the walls super easy.

Do you get mind control as career ability if you use lore of metal?

No, you get mind control from one of Eonir's classes. It's (IMO), the strongest ability by far, as you can mind control enemy mages at the start of the combat and see them wrecking havoc on their own forces. Or you can mind control elite units such as minotaurs and other tier 9. As you keep upgrading this ability, the mind control units will even explode upon death, which is double fun.

Lore of metal is simply more versatile in terms of its ultimate spell. The hounds stay for a long time; they act as a vortex spell and are capable of murdering a lot of enemy troops (which is sort of important if you will ever decide to storm one of the two super keeps: Brass Citadel or Blood Keep). But this lore lacks heal, if that is important to you (personally, I always hire Damsel or Life Mage to fill that role).

I have no idea what Eonir's classes are, I only just started this mod a few days ago, I have lore of heavens currently. Found out about Eonir, but how do you upgrade mind control as an ability?

I love fire. Burning head spam and good old fire ball. Especially if you get career points that boost fire damage
