Lore of metal is simply more versatile in terms of its ultimate spell. The hounds stay for a long time; they act as a vortex spell and are capable of murdering a lot of enemy troops (which is sort of important if you will ever decide to storm one of the two super keeps: Brass Citadel or Blood Keep). But this lore lacks heal, if that is important to you (personally, I always hire Damsel or Life Mage to fill that role).
