Mercury Rising I + II
Mercury Rising Review: Faith in Gaming Restored
Review based on Legendary MR I + II
Incredible mod, MR I and II truly feels like an evolution of Halo that works so well in the engine and universe. I was never around for the release of MR I, so I came into this blind, as a classic Halo fan. It left me wanting more!
One of the most important aspects in any game for me is immersion, primarily through level design. MR does wonderfully in guiding the player through its world with points of interest, branching paths, and immersive storytelling.
Once I listened to the first grunt through the uplink, I knew I'd be hooked. MR likes to make areas in the level feel like actual places, not just an area to fight enemies. It also does a great job, gameplay wise, within the confines of Halo CE's engine.
Unlike classic Halo, where a few weapons reign supreme, MR gives you options. Finding a new weapon and trying it out feels so much better when they can actually deal some damage, or have some special effect. The bubble shield and healing grenade are just great. No more hunting for a medkit, bring one with you! I also found every enemy and encounter to be balanced very well, in the few areas where they may seem too tough to take on, there are always resources and paths set aside for the vigilant player.
On top of all that, the levels are replayable, too. Due to the branching paths (and sheer scale of II) you can, and will, find things you didn't see on your first run.
My only gripe throughout the entire mod are the checkpoints on II. Not because they never happen, but because they happen VERY often. If you hear one of your companions die, you better be fast enough on the reset. I wasn't (RIP medic). However, if you like to go head first into every combat encounter, you may like this checkpoint system.
If you haven't played this yet, do it now. Absolutely needs more attention and recognition, up to you guys to make that happen. 10/10
How did you guys like it? What were your favorite moments throughout the mod? Mine had to be driving into the plains, or using the rocket on those annoying hunters...

Thanks for a nice review! I wish you told me about the saving issue earlier before I updated the mod yesterday. I forgot to pause the passive saving if the medic or drone dies. If a scientist dies, the passive saving is paused for 7 seconds to give you a chance to reload but somehow I forgot the other 2 companions whoops
