FAQ
Does this list work for my MP server?

Yes! Thanks to some dedicated testers I can confirm that this list works just fine in multiplayer.

Make sure to disable Anti Cheat type 12, some mods will not function correctly with this enabled. You can use the mod list preset file, simply place the current version's load order into your saved modlists server file (same location as the SP preset file).

How to get Workshop IDs & Mod IDs:
Use this scraper: https://getcollectionids.moonguy.me/
The collection's ID is 2992074819

Please refer to the MP guide for all relevant info and a complete step-by-step on how to host.

I keep timing out when trying to host a server, did I do something wrong?

There are many things that -can- go wrong when trying to work with Steam's shakey CDN and a game like Project Zomboid and its less-than-optimal server tools. Any time I publish a new version of this list, I test to see if I can host a multiplayer game myself, then I make the server files available to you all to download.

If you're having issues even after cleaning your game, carefully following the instructions and checking the coop console logs, it might just be that your hardware isn't sufficient to handle a more heavily modded server. Some people have previously recorded successes after cutting out some of the heavier mods of the list and trying again. Now this isn't a 100% definitive diagnosis, but it's the best I got based on previous reports.

Will this collection still work when the next PZ update comes out?

I do not believe that we will see many more patches to Build 41 of Project Zomboid. The devs are hard at work getting Build 42 ready, which will be a MAJOR content update to the base game. You can expect MANY mods to break or even become obsolete. This collection will almost certainly no longer work when Build 42 comes out - But this won't be for quite a few more months. Minor updates to Build 41 should not break this list, if they do, it should be temporary as most mod authors are very diligent in updating their creations.

How do I use all the new weapon-related features like alternate grips or melee modes?

Arsenal Gunfighter and Brita's Weapon Pack are the two main weapon overhaul mods. They add many new functions including using a bayonet afixed to your gun or deploying bipods on an LMG.
While holding any weapon, hold down "R" to bring up a radial menu with your options for that weapon.
You can also make use of the hotkeys added by these mods:

(Use the Main Menu KeyBinding tab to re-map keys)
"[" & "]" - Cycle Magazine type... Melee Grip
"-" & "+" - Launcher & Flame Thrower Range... CQB Mode
"\" - Alternate Load method
"HOME" - Melee mode... Exit Launcher mode
"<" & ">" - Cycle Compatible Caliber... Grenade type
"?" - Fold Stock... Fold Bayonet
"R-CTRL" - Weapon Light
"Backspace" - Cycle Select Fire Mode
"Z" - FORCE UPDATE WEAPONS from saves (press while equipped)

My ammo counter looks messy and I don't like the text that pops up when I equip a firearm

These are both part of ArsenalGunfighter's mod. If you installed the mod collection following my guide and using my mod preset file, you will not see this, if you didn't, here's why:

If you're playing on Singleplayer, you will need to change these ingame by heading into your Settings, then to the (mods) tab, scroll down until you find the Arsenal options. Change Debug messages to OFF and untick Show Ammunition. This will get rid of the lines obscuring the plaintext ammo counter in the top left of your UI.

I am experiencing FPS drops while exploring a city or getting into a vehicle

Project Zomboid's build 41 is not very optimized. The developers are working on a brand new rendering methods that should drastically improve FPS in densely populated areas such as Louisville. Until then we will need to balance our desire for interesting maps and buttery smooth gameplay. Some minor stuttering is just part and parcel of denser maps right now, this is a vanilla issue. Large zombie populations also contribute to this - There are some mods that alleviate this by setting a maximum render limit that will display any additional zombies as textureless silhuettes, but this is not included in this list.

Likewise, a few mods are improving the experience when driving vehicles and adding more immersion to its UI. Because of this, when you FIRST get into a vehicle, there will be a little stutterung. This only happens once in every session.

Update: Please refer to the Better FPS guide for an easy-to-do performance boost!

My game is taking longer than usual to load

This list has over 300 mods, all of which have to be loaded when you get into your save game, they add content, run scripts and all sorts of behind-the-scenes magic. Loading a save game with lots of mods will be slower, that's just a fact. If the game seemingly freezes whilst loading, don't be alarmed and just wait a minute.

After subscribing, some mods in the mod manager are red and can not be activated, what gives?

This is normal, some mods include optional components that are not used in this collection and are lacking their dependencies which is why they can not be activated, most notably the More Maps mod. This is fine and will not affect your game in any way, simply leave them be.

I am getting errors. What should I do?

I am trying my best to only use mods that are compatible with each other. Ideally, you should have no errors whatsoever when loading into your game or while playing it. However, I cannot physically test every possible interaction ingame by myself so it is possible that there may still be some conflicts. I have included the mod Error Magnifier that will give you clearer error logs ingame (you will see a magnifying glass with a red E in the bottom right corner of your screen). These logs often point to whichever mod is the cause of the error. Should you experience an error, please let me know in the comments or in the Feedback discussion thread. Please tell me what mod is causing the error and what you were doing, and ideally if it can be replicated.

I'm getting visual glitches in some places, what should I do?

First of all, ensure that you have enabled "Use double-sized Textures" in your display settings. This alone will fix a lot of visual oddities, as many mods are made using this option by default. If you're still encountering visual bugs, this may be due to tile packs being updated but the modded location that uses them still being behind.

If you find something like this, take screenshots of the glitch and of your location on the map so I can take a look.

Why do I get mauled by zombies immediately when I spawn?

Note: This -should- be fixed now with the inclusion of 'Wake Them Up'!

Multiple factors at play here. Some modded locations seem to lack the safehouse protection for brand new spawns and therefore, you will sometimes spawn in a house or even a room with zombies in. Think fast or just respawn again (save your character presets). Duck's Spawns also make it so ALL zombies will spawn where they should and not just the ones outside. This means many more houses will be populated even before anyone goes inside of them.

As for multiplayer games, the world is persistent and you might just have been unlucky.

The game is too easy/too hard for me

Difficulty is subjective. Some players will have thousands of hours in the game and need a challenge. Others have just started and still need to get their head around the basic controls. While I do recommend this list to both newbies and veterans alike, I cannot possibly balance it for everyone. Luckily, Project Zomboid is highly customisable. I have included a Sandbox Settings Preset in the changelog and in the description with my recommended settings. You are totally free to tweak these to your liking. For the more hardcore "I finished [latest Souls game] naked without taking hits" players among you, I've also included a "Hard" preset.

Tip: Customisable Zombies is included as a mod, so all zombies have different walking speeds and yes, there are some sprinters. You can tweak this to add more and really crank up the difficulty!

Why so many mods?

I don't like bloat, I really don't. I do not curate my lists with the sole intention to cram as many mods as possible into them. Rather, I want a holistic experience in which every single mod has its place. The reason why this list is so large is largely because of the vehicle and map mods included. KI5's (excellent) vehicles are released as standalone mods - One mod per car. Similarly, every map location is its own mod. This inflates the list and may give the impression that it's totally bloated. Many tiny fixes, patches and necessary libraries also are taken into account even though they should not affect performance much.

Will this work with Mod X/another mod collection?

This list was crafted from scratch and you're expected to use a clean PZ install to run it. I have no idea if mods you want to add to it will be compatible or not, that's something you'll have to figure out. If you have any questions regarding possible conflicts, do ask. While I can't offer any actual support on criss-crossing this list with others, I know most of the mods that are included and might be able to point out obvious incompatibilities.

Can I paint cars?

Unfortunately you can not paint the cars used in this pack. I've tried including only high-quality animated cars for the most part, and these use "hard-skinned textures" almost exclusively, meaning every car with a different paint job is physically a different vehicle rather than just having a texture overlay. To use the 'Paint my Ride' mod you'd have to switch to old cars like Filibusters and Vanilla.

Here's some freebies for you:
Snake's Mod Pack? No.
Superb survivors? Not without some modifications
10 Years Later? Actually yes, for the most part. Switch the Hunting mod for the 10 yrs later version and look for other optional modules

Hi,

Does the provided modlist preset have the correct load order or must that be done manually after? If it does not, could you please provide your load order?

Cheers

Hey, presets also save your load order, at least they did in my tests. You can check this by heading into the mod order after loading the preset - The first 10 mods should be (in this order):

- Mod Manager
- Mod Manager: Enhanced Load Order
- Mod Options
- Simon MDs Tiles
- SearchModeAPI
- Authentic Z
- Fix Capacity Overlap
- Blackwood
- C.O.N. Research & Testing Facility
- Chinatown

As well as generally, the maps and tiles will be at the top of the order, cars, weapons and other additions towards the bottom.

Let me know if that's working for you!

Yep, that looks right, thanks. Going to play this on a hosted MP server with some friends so I'll check how well it works on MP, hopefully its fine.

Be sure to let me know how that goes! Some mods included do have alternate versions meant for multiplayer, it might be worth going through the list and making sure those are ticked instead.
Also keep in mind that due to active testing/debugging, a Cheat engine is still included as well - Might want to turn that off. :)
Tried in COOP MP, after creating character starting load screen into game, and after it just black screen. Wait for 10 min, nothing change. Change GB on server power from 3 to 4.5, nothing change.
I’m actually nobody in this game, started playing few days ago, so… maybe I did something wrong with starting of server.
Thank anyone for help in advance!
Keep save, end of connection… zzz :summercat2023:

Multiplayer requires a lot more setup than what's described in the installation guide here. I'm hoping to get some feedback from players who are testing the list on multiplayer to be able to give more support.

Hey I have a question. I have your modlist and your load order, but for some reason when I open my map in Westpoint Expansion it will draw the modded buildings on the map for a second but then immediately revert back to the default map.

Not running any other mods? Did you touch the map load order at all (seperate button)? Are the buildings actually there?

No more mods, untouched map load order at first, then I tried moved westpoint expansion to the top to fix it and it didn't. The buildings are there, it's just not showing them when I open the map, save for a few seconds and then the map reverts to the vanilla map for those tiles.

Alright, so the modded locations not showing up on the world map is a known problem when the mod authors don't include this as a feature. "InGameMaps" is specifically included to remedy this problem, it has components for each of the supported mods, a main one and a vanilla one. Can you make sure that InGameMaps [Main], [Vanilla] and [West Point Expansion] are loaded and ideally are in that order as well?

They are loaded in that order and the paper map won't load the buildings

You could try disabling InGameMaps [Vanilla], that one overwrites the entire map and gives it more fidelity. It does conflict with the locational modules but that's usually resolved by putting them in the correct load order.
So yeah try disabling only the Vanilla component and let me know if that fixes it.

I had to enable all known on start to fix it. Kinda sucks, but I am playing as an insurgent so I can explain it away.

That's really weird haha but I'm glad you got it working

Hey there, started testing this collection and came into a bit of a brick wall in regards to the map mod priority order, mainly because some of the items listed in the collection's description are nowhere to be found on the list so I'm not sure how to order them around. For reference here's what I see on my end after subbing to your collection on a fresh install and loading the mods preset:

InGameMaps_Vanilla
InGameMaps_Main
west_point_expansion_map
FortRedstone_map
Eerie Country_map
From Bedford Falls to Fort Knox_map
Fort Knox Linked to Eerie Country_map

From your description:

Three specific map mods should also be in this particular order to work correctly:

Road from Fort Knox to Bedford Falls
Fort Knox Linked to Eerie Country
Bedford Falls

Never used map mods before so I'm kind of at a loss here. Thanks for any help!
