Starlight River
v.0.2.7 No forge key , can't progress, not recommended.
I know a lot of people love this mod , their praise is what made me excited to try it so I doubt this will be a popular opinion but there needs to be some other reviews to balance all the hype.

I tried to enjoy it, I really have, forcing my way thru multiple frustrations but now I cannot go further because of a bug.

I've killed the Glassweaver , gotten the map (which then got stuck on screen and couldn't be closed only moved out of the way) , went to the forge and confirmed what I already knew "I need a key" , So I go back to Glassweaver and tell him I need a key and he just closes the dialogue and does nothing,

Rude.

When I talked to him again he yells at me for leaving in the middle of the discussion. What a jerk.

So I gave him another thrashing and asked again. Still nothing, Rematched again , nothing.

I could probably start a new world and it would work just fine, something just went wrong here but the thing is I don't want to , I REALLY don't want to.

I'm burnt out on this mod after 4 days and I don't want to play it again until it is finished or much more progress made.

Honestly I do not understand why this mod is so highly praised currently. I went in excited , thinking it would be like calamity but now I just feel like I wasted my time with a buggy mess.

I'm ready to go to hardmode now and this mod feels like it has done NOTHING significant, 2 bosses and 1 useless ability to "look at things".

As a stand alone mod it feels like I was playing vanilla.

Everything interesting seems to require the Wind power I get from the Forge which I cannot even access due to a bug but even if I could access the forge the pacing seems horrible, your first power should have been the wind to let you actually interact with all the interesting things placed around the map, At which point you are in hardmode or about to be in hardmode and have no use for half the stuff.

It's a shame.

Honestly the things added by the mod are visually nice but functionally not worth it , the challenge temples gave crap rewards , the added weapons and relics were pretty 'meh' and sometimes buggy , the squid boss fight was alright but my desert biome never spawned an entrance just lots of monuments which looked cool but caused me to waste my time thinking the real desert spawned elsewhere,

After exploring the entire surface and seeing both deserts spawned with no entrance I had to dig down randomly twice and finally found the forge area , buggy and too much work for no reward. Which is a good representation of this mod in it's whole.

And don't get me started on gloom slimes.

TLDR I was excited from the reviews but it was buggy and the parts that worked were not interesting , I don't recommend playing until the mod is more polished and has more content.

Ditto to this, especially the part about the pacing. By the time you're meant to access the wind ability that lets you interact with the stuff scattered around the world, you're meant to have already beaten up to the evil boss of choice and the queen bee -- so in the middle of prepping for skeletron. At that point in the game, you likely already explored the vast majority of your pre-hardmode exploration time in normal caves, so now you'd have to backtrack across the entirety of your world just to interact with stuff you'll ditch after not too long later. Not to mention the frustration of finding a cool thing only to see "You'll need a later ability to interact with this" and realize you'll probably never come back there again.

Bugs aside, I think the mod's promising. However, it would be pretty tough to put bugs aside like that when the regular situation you're in is the mod's structures being overwritten in world gen, or just absent entirely, the mod's graphics tank your performance, and doesn't particularly reward you for any of it. It's like the Terraria equivalent to Starbound, but with more bugs -- all potential, no payoff.
Oof , 8 months since I wrote that review and the mod is still so buggy ? Well I guess I will keep waiting before trying it again I read the 2.8 patch notes and thought they might have fixed the major things. Guess I will keep waiting for this one to be finished. (might be a long wait)
