Mod Compatibility
As Magna Europa: Reloaded offers a complete overhaul of vanilla HOI4, there are many issues surrounding compatibility with other mods that can be expected. This is an inherent nature of modding with HOI4. This guide will provide some insight into the expected compatibility of mods with ME:R, but is not an exhaustive list. I plan on updating this as new information or potential patches are released. The structure of this post is heavily inspired by the ZoFE mod for Stellaris

Ratings are as follows:

  • Compatible - Mods work together without any issues.

  • Minor Issues - No major impact to gameplay but may need a patch.

  • Major Issues - Major issues with compatibility, will require a patch.

  • Incompatible - Inherent flaws that cannot be fixed, and will probably crash your game.

AI Mods

Minor Issues

Most AI mods should function without many bugs, but minor issues may arise over state or focus designation.

Expert AI

Major Issues

Expert AI offers a total overhaul of vanilla AI, but that comes with changes that make it non-functional in tandem with ME:R.

Flag Mods

Compatible

ME:R makes significant changes to many flags. However, if you prefer to use another flag mod, it should function without issue as long as it is given load priority.

Focus Tree Mods

Major Issues

All focus trees in ME:R are only identical to the vanilla ones on the surface, major reworks had to be done to make them function correctly on the backend, due to the significant map and state changes. This means mods that add focus trees to any country or change them in any way will need a significant compatibility patch, one that would not be easy to make.

GFX Mods

Compatible

Mods that change GFX elements like focuses, units or national spirits should function without issues.

Language Mods

Major Issues

Mods that change languages will face issues with unnamed states, as well as missing localisation for several events and focuses.

Map Style Mods

Compatible

Mods that change the map style, such as FPS map or TNO map should function without any issues.

Overhaul Mods

Incompatible

Mods such as KX, KR, rt56, TNO and other complete overhaul mods are completely incompatible with ME:R. A compatibility patch would be possible, but would take hundreds of hours due to the nature of these mods.

Peace Conference Mods

Minor Issues

ME:R makes minor changes to peace conferences (mainly on historical AI) to avoid the total bordergore that happens at the end of WWII in vanilla. General peace conference mods such as Player-Led should function without any issues, but mods that are more specific may have some issues.

State/Province Mods

Incompatible

Mods that exclusively change/add states/provinces are completely incompatible, not that you would want to use it anyway.

Technology Mods

Compatible

We have only made minor changes to the vanilla technologies, so tech mods should function fine as long as they are given load priority.

Toolpack/State Transfer Tool

Major Issues - Compatibility Patch Available

I'm honestly not sure why these don't work, but there is a compatibility patch available on the workshop for toolpack.

Unit Mods

Major Issues

ME:R moves around every division, so any mod that changes default templates, adds units or modifies them in any way will cause all units in that country to spawn all across the map. This doesn't include unit icons or reskins, which would fall under GFX.

yeh i was also aha, i was playing italy and d-day happened doing really well then my units kept getting deleted randomly is there a hidden punishment?

so the only way to get half decent focus trees is to cough up the $200 for all the DLCs? what a shame.
