An Open Letter to the Community Regarding CUP
Hello everyone,

It is difficult to put into words the joy we felt when we saw the how many of you shared the same fond memories we had about Sahrani.

However, it has become apparent from the feedback we received, that we need to clear some things about one of the key choices we made while making this terrain, that being the choice of using JBAD over CUP.

To people who request that we change to/make a cup version of this terrain: We understand where you're coming from and we'd like to say that we have nothing against the CUP Team. After all, without their work on porting Sahrani to Arma 3 we would not experienced the memories that inspired us to create Sehreno. However, to simply suggest that JBAD has the same buildings as CUP is a massive disservice towards the JBAD team, The effort of whom not only provides buildings to the Terrain Making community which has a shortage of usable buildings but also features an element of verticality. An element we longed for as players and mission makers ever since Arma series began. With CUP buildings needed for Norhern Sahrani being made available with added interiors in the Contact Update and JBAD allowing us to re-create the visual contrast between North and South found on original Sahrani terrain it became an easy and clear choice for us to use JBAD and we firmly stand by that choice.

We kindly wish that you give JBAD a try and see the possibilities that verticality brings to Southern Sahrani with JBAD buildings.

Thank you!

For our unit, its not about having anything against JBAD or the JBAD team. For us, we use CUP Terrains as it gives us a wide variety of maps in one package. CUP Terrain Core has extremely similar assets to JBAD, and adding another 3GB of similar buildings, to our already 60GB mod list just to add one map is a little insane given the similarity. Granted our modpack is insane in of itself and we are aware.

Its just such a shame we'll never get to use this map because of this fact. I'm not entirely sure what assets you guys needed that CUP doesn't have that you couldn't swap out for a CUP version, but judging by this announcement, it must be something you guys believe to be quite large.

Just to clarify, I don't think anyone is saying you should delete this JBAD version and make it with CUP instead. That's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. We're just asking, for Units of whom are already using CUP, to give us a chance to enjoy this amazing map without having to add another mod to our already bloated modlists. This is our problem, not yours. No one is blaming you for picking JBAD.

But this is your mod, you can do whatever you want to it and because you guys do it for free (We love you btw) anyone who complains about it, can suck a fart out of our collective arses. We appreciate your commitment regardless. ARMA would be trash with you and other mod devs like you. So thank you.

I wanna start off with saying that I absolutely adore what you've done with a lot of the map, and having dabbled in map making myself before, hugely appreciate the blood, sweat, and tears that went into the creation of the map. That, and.. well, it's the '2035' treatment, but for Sahrani! I've been waiting for something like this for so long I don't even remember how long it's been.

Now, yes, CUP indeed doesn't have all the buildings Jbad has. However, that also goes the other way, and I personally really miss certain things from the original map, like the big hotel in the valley or the seaside resort huts near Paraíso. Hell, I had to do a double take when I saw that crashed plane in the middle of the valley. I also imagine the Queen's Gambit DLC's TV broadcasting station near Bagango is also not there, though I haven't checked.

So I have a question: have you considered asking the CUP team for permission to include, packed in this terrain, those buildings? They all have interiors, too, they're just a little low-res on the textures side of things. I agree with your decision to rely on Jbad, enoch, Tanoa, etc. content overall, but I feel like those places I mentioned really lost their identity compared to the original. Especially the resort, which now just looks like a part of your version of Ortego that got misplaced.

As a side note, where's that house Prince Orlando was at in the second mission of QG? It seems to just be an empty foresty area in your version, which is somewhat disappointing, seeing as there's an almost replica of that exact building in Contact, and it's a great location for missions anyways.

Thank you again for your time and effort making this map.

This I don't mind, but I am sorely missing the verticality in Northern Sahrani. Where have all the commblocks gone? Do you guys ever intend to add them?

We are limited by the fact that we dont have that many buildings to work with. One of the things we decided on when making this map is that the buildings should almost always be usable by a player(Able to walk in it). The game only has so many buildings and the original buildings can only be found in CUP for the most part, which means we would have to add that to add some of those buildings, which we wont. The map has the mod it has and the limitations of standard arma buildings and this wont change.

So in short. No, we wont add them.

What about what I suggested in my comment? Selectively adding the few buildings that remain, that is. The CUP team is pretty cool, I'm sure they'd agree to it, especially given the terrain's quality.

We understand what you are suggesting, but it is not something we plan on doing. The CUP Team has done great stuff, but we dont see a big enough reason to ask the question you want us to ask. I understand that it would be nice to have those buildings and I would have loved if more buildings throughout arma were "Standard" without the need for mods, but sadly there arent. For us it is a matter of what do we gain, in comparison to how much time we would spend on trying to make it happen and the likelyhood of it happening.

So, in short, not in current plans, but who knows about the future.

This is a good of a response as any of us could've asked for. I would've definitely been one of the people whining "y u no use CUP, Jbad more bloat >:C" if you hadn't explained why you chose it. So thank you for this. It's not bloat if there's a good reason for it.

I hope you got every little bit of detail you were hoping for!
