Memory usage spike and crash
I’ve encountered big issue. I have 32 Gb ram. Assets count is 2460 subscriptions (including 90 mods) and approx. 8000 of assets in LSM counter.

I’ve set pagefile according to well known guide here. It was set to 48 Gb giving me around 80Gb memory in total. My total memory usage was around 50Gb after city load some time earlier, but after all latest DLCs and updates went to around 55Gb.

Everything was nice till yesterday when I subscribed several new assets. And then my city refused to load. It was loading normally till almost last seconds of LSM and then suddenly exit to desktop. Initially I suspected that some exact newly subscribed assets may be a problem. So I unsubscribed them. And yes – everything became normal and city loaded successfully. But it turned out that not this exact assets are a problem, but that I neared some “limit”. If I subscribe new assets over some threshold, the city can’t load anymore.

I looked into memory usage and noticed such a behaviour – like with normal process in last second of loading of the city my total memory usage stays at around 54-56 Gb and then suddenly in one second jumps up to around 78-79. And next moment crash exit to the desktop. Obviously this several “additional” assets can’t give this ~25Gb overhead by itself – by they definitely trigger this process.

I tried to set pagefile to 64Gb (on second drive) + letting pagefile of system drive to “manage by windows”. No change – still crash exit with similar behaviour. Also tried to disable system drive pagefile and leave only 64Gb on second drive – still crash exit.

Would be grateful for advice what can I do in this situation? Really need help…

I've only just seen this (I don't get notified of new discussions, only posts in the main channel, and I have too many mods to be able to check discussions manually more than once a month).

If you're still having issues then please repost your log (that link has expired), although I suspect your issue is very much memory-related. Some mods require extra memory at the end of loading, especially those doing texture manipulations, which may be the case here. Your output log should have clues.

@algernon Thank you for your attention - appreciate it!!! I didn't continue to ask for help because at least for now problem has resolved. I didn't find any "real" solution, but instead did complete overhaul of my subscriptions and unsubed around 200 of unused assets (from 2300+ total). After that I till today can continue to play normally and from time to time accuratly sub new necessary assets. Don't know if and when the problem will return. Or maybe I will be lucky and the particular configuration of circumstances that triggered this issue will not happen again... Time will show!

@algernon After "Hotels" Update the problem returned and now I can't load any my save. Everything is happening exactly as described above and shown on video in my first message.

Having the same problem since the last updates... Uns a lot of assets and still having a lot of memory consumption and crashing after (32GB)

Apply the usual solutions for managing memory use.

I'd double-check that (temporarily) reducing asset subscriptions solves the issue. If so, then yes, more memory would solve it.

For me it was some old map themes that failed to load textures and lots of broken (mostly boeing airplanes) that were causing mem spikes/leaks up to 200GB usage.

Sometimes the engine managed to catch enough mem from all around the hdds to still load into the game but most of the time after minutes of loading it crashed or looped endlessly.

Never would´ve found out without the loading screen mod. :steamhappy:
Problem appeared for me out of nowhere since hotels dlc.
After throwing out the troublecausing assets and map themes mem usage is back to around 22GB with still thousands of subscribtions. Just my two cents. So my advise for anyone with similar mem usage problems and crashes is don´t forget to check your terraintexture and theme stuff :yay:

edit: the pure existence of those themes caused it for me, no matter if in use or not

@kaneeden, that is interesting! But can you tell - how exactly you have found out this assets which were generating the issue? How you was able to pinpoint them among others?

loading screen mod gave me something like failed to " draw scene" / render "terrain" / "texture" X and so i finally had a name and not only a number like in the output.log and knew exactly at what point it stopped loading.
It was one tropical theme and one 7 year old HD something that never got updated but also never caused any problems before hotels patch.
And the Boeing assets were also named on the left side while loading in red and not orange colour.
As far as i understand missing assets in orange are only stuff like your italian house has a missing chimney asset it would really like to use but it´s also fine if you don´t. But red ones are something like expected and waited for by the engine nowadays and in the log file it reserved 22GB .. waited..couldn´t draw..reserved 22gb on the next HDD ... waited..couldn´t draw.. it stacked up until i ran completely out of memory and hdd space.
I don´t know what this loading screen mod does differently to the engine in terms of debugging but it prevented at least the endless loading behaviour, without it i had the problem that through all this endless reserve space messages i wasn´t able to figure out at what point exactly the crash happened. :steamthumbsup:

@kanedeen, thank you a lot for such a detailed explanation!!! Can you please, add, this info you mentioned " draw scene" / render "terrain" / "texture" X - this was written just on LSM loading page while loading save or you found it in some special LSM log file?

And also this info: "and in the log file it reserved 22GB .. waited..couldn´t draw.." - log file you mention here is usual output.log or also some special LSM log file (or some other)?
