Europa Universalis IV

SuperStates Mod

Long update times, why do they happen?
There's a short answer and a long answer this.

The short answer is we are busy outside of the mod and can't work on it all the time causing us to get behind easily. Its true and its made worse by everything else that goes into having the time to dedicate for modding.

The long answer is well long because it takes the short answer and gives it context.

In addition to us having our own lives, we aren't getting paid to do this. Its entirely voluntary and our attentions are focused to what is most important in our lives. The first problem I run into is I'm working a lot more than I use to. It was great when I started this mod as I worked part time and was going to college but now that I'm no longer in college, I have to actually work and feed myself and pay bills and manage my debt. Everybody else on the team as to do their own things to do pretty much along the same lines. More importantly, when we start getting behind, we find that the mod development gets compounded by major changes in the game. This is the biggest motivation killer right now is finding that all the hard work you did for the last update is now useless and has to be scrapped. It frustrates me to no end to see one dumb mechanic replaced with another dumb mechanic so that the godking players have something new for a challenge on their Twitch streams. This is the nature of modding Paradox games right now, watching your hard work get ruined by decisions in Sweden (Paradox Interactive is in Sweden) that you had not been consulted on because you don't paid their salaries.

Unlike some mod teams, I or any member of the mod team do not get any preview of what the next update will be. Its nice to get to use a public beta as gives an idea of what we're going to get but those are few and far between. Often times we have to figure out what the new mechanics do and understand them before we start editing them. Right now I'm dreading the 1.26 update with all of its changes to the governments. I worked hard making the custom governments in the mod and all of that gets wiped away in the next patch. So right now we are stuck at their mercy with how they replace old mechanics for new ones and often we dread how much work we have to throw away and rebuild in order to get the mod updated to the same level as before and this is mod time that isn't allowing us to put in new flavor material for the various states you can play so the mod just continues to feel flat.

What can you do to help?

If you have mod experience and free time, you're welcome to join the team and help update what we're the most behind on.

If you don't have mod experience, we ask you to just give us some support. No money or anything like that but actually cheer us on. Ask us how we're doing or what we're working on right now and ask how its coming. Stuff like that makes me feel better. Making demands or begging or complaining or anything else that isn't constructive is usually ignored or treated with contempt. We do this for free because of that we owe you nothing if you are impatient or belligerent.

Your patience will be rewarded when we can do so.

<3s to you and the team, I can only imagine how big of a task compatibility updating has become after so many DLCs and patches.

I don't like admitting it but the reason why it has taken so long already is because we can't seem to get ahead of all the changes. And for a quite a while I was burned out and very little was accomplished.

Well you got one fan cheering you on, love the mod to death and sorry its been so difficult to keep it up to date. Thanks for all the work you and the rest of the team have been doing. (Side note, for me I do not even care if it is up to date on the current patch, if you guys would just say screw Paradox for the moment and finish an update on the game for a more recent patch, out dated or not, I feel like that would be much better than trying to chase after an uncooperative Sweden)

Its not that they are uncooperative its that I'm not a mind reader and I have no idea what the end result is of their update until its posted. They can describe it in as much detail in a developer diary as they want but I won't know exactly what they mean until I see it myself. So I get frustrated by all the surprises.

Keep up the hard work, this is truley a great and interesting mod that brings one of the best scenarios ever for this game. Your mod is the reason I bought EU4, so I could conquer the pacific and rival european nations as my home state. Things like these take a lot of work it seems, so take your time, live your life, and enjoy your creations. Thanks for the mod!

That is why I would just say finish the mod for the game for whatever patch you guys are currently working on, it will be something for you guys to feel more excited about instead of constantly having to upsettingly start over. Plus, then it allows the people who play and love your mod to play it more, as it will be on a more recent patch and will not be as confusing to revert back to.

Reverting is usually straight forward and one can cheat by copying the older version from a revert to a new folder and have an updated version and a reverted version, but I do understand people's concerns but there's more here than one realizes though. Major patches usually overhaul something and we are two or three major patches behind so we're finding that we're having to adapt to overhauls that were done a while back that were had not finished completely.

Oh i get I think, it would be almost the same amount of work to finish an older patchas it would to finish a new patch. Hopefully after this coming patch, when Paradox like the rest of Sweden takes the majority of the Summer off, you guys will be alotting some much needed and deserved catch up time for the mod.

I was wondering if there is anyway to get access to the different flags of the countries added in, I tried doing it through the mod files itself but it wouldnt show up.

If you guys need help for a French localisation I think I could help a bit. I don't know much about coding, but I can easily translate what you need.

I have a translator for French.

What I always seem to need the most help with is the inspiration for coming up with events. I have a backlog of events I need to create for religious changes I'm not really able to come up with much.
