Focus on the story teller not individual casts
I put part of this in the main but thought it would make more since to create its own discussion.

A part of me just wants to treat this like an overhaul mode as that is kinda what it does. Think of rim of magic. I think with how Psy powers are presented in this one more people would have them and the world would be split around those with and without them. If the game could recognize how many colonist have powers and their level and send adequate power raids it would be fine. ex Empire inquisition WarCastkets as no body expects the inquisition. Look at the mech invasion mod for inspiration. I think instead of nit picking singe powers look at the story teller. Have him send not just psy casters but "Mage slayers" Warcaskets with zero psy sensitivity. I made the mistake of sending who i thought was OP at a Warcasket colony and got sent home packing.

If you follow the empire have certain paths black listed as it is the price to follow the law. I like how psy essence drain causes relation loss. Keep with this ideal for the necro path as big business healer mech serum would not like it. lol Have warnings from factions that get sent to the player for certain psy power use with appropriate response sent against them if they continue. Example make crops grow too fast too often no more trade ships ,caravans, and warnings from factions about messing with time.

In closing I love the re-envisioning of the psy casts and think that the in-balance is not in the powers per se but in how the game world acknowledges them and utilizes them its self. As with most modes if i add OP weapon the game can still send OP weapon at me.

P.S Oskar keep being you! I love everything your team and you put out they are labors of love that have really added to why i love PC gaming and Rimworld. I couldn't even imagine playing this game without many of your mods and many of them have gotten me to use systems i usually never look at. Psy castes being one of them and nutrient paste will be the next!:steamthumbsup:

I don't 100% agree about whether interventions like this would be enough to make all of the current psycasts feel well-balanced to me personally, but I still think these ideas are really cool and would definitely improve the mod's experience.

I agree with balance in singleplayer games ONLY if the player themselves does the balancing. Give us sliders to slide, mod options to turn on and off! Do not decide for us how we should play! Let us decide how we should play! Let your vision for the mod be the default settings, then if we don't like them, we tweak them to our liking. Is that so horribly hard to do?

That was my same feeling with all of these power X is too OP plz make power X this.... comments. Rimworld is a sandbox game. We play it how we feel. Just look at how all of our mods lists vary.

You can give steam awards, which is practically the same thing.

I agree with balance in singleplayer games ONLY if the player themselves does the balancing.

Third party VPE balancing mods are starting to come out, tweaking things like foci and backstories. It would be nice to have more sliders from VPE, but I recognize that adding 'simple' mod options that are changeable mid-save is MUCH easier said than done.

That would also solve the "AI are bad at using psycasts" problem. Give the AI simpler tools. Warlord raiders already use a similar approach.

I would particularly like to see Nighstalker raids (like drop pods except assassins spawn in darkness), psychically deaf raids, or raids launched in combination with psychic drones.

This I actually disagree with. Adding events that any storyteller can use (and that players can configure with VEE) would be great. Forcing the player to use a specific storyteller to get events / balance / raid types would be bad. What if someone wants to play with Winston Saves, Igor Invador, or Empress Evil? It would be a bit silly for a Vanilla Expanded Mod to be incompatible with other Vanilla Expanded mods.
