i think trigger hurt would be simpler. also you would be able to choose different damage types such as shock, normal or burn. its kind of a no brainer, wish that was a feature
on another note it seems when you load mario into a map. mario will save a file to remember the collisions of the map. so if you update the map the collision file won't change.
those map collision files are stored in the cache folder GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\g64\cache
you can use a tool thats part of the mod to make props and maybe some brush entities
have different properties. such as burning, quicksand, slippery, etc
the vanish cap lets mario go through func_doors
mario doesn't collide with func_brush at all
