Thanks for putting the work in!
Our server admin recently switched over to your mod from an older one. There are two things I noticed and disliked in the change:
1) Inaccessible parts can be repaired without removing them
Please make it so that only a few parts can be repaired without taking them off the vehicle. Most parts, like wheels and everything behind them, should need to be taken off to be repaired.
2) Windshields require metal to repair. Why? How about glue instead!
Thanks for the input. I'll try to explain my reasoning.
1) I was debating with myself this very thing. I left repairs for all parts to be accessible without removing for now.
You say "Please make it so that only a few parts can be repaired without taking them off the vehicle."
- What parts other than (eg:)removing a wheel for brake and suspension repairs would you think should be removed first?
(I have an old 1990 jeep cherokee and work on my own repairs, being an older vehicle its actually easy to repair compared to my newer 2011 car. With the game setting being 80's/90's cars back then were just easier to repair)
IRL so many repairs you can do without having to remove parts, and this mod aims to do that, thats why I have multiple repair options per part, some are light like duct tape, or gluing so IRL you probably wouldnt need to remove the part for that specific repair.
I'd like to make some welding repairs require part uninstall but not sure if the game will allow that yet until I dig more into the code.
So an idea going forward would be wheel removal to allow brake and suspension repairs if a certain repair requires a blowtorch for example.
2) I added metal to repair windshields because its the apocalypse and I'd imagine a metal structure to the windshield would help with adding to the condition of the windshield.
Glues make sense for a quick low level repair and I will add that in next update.
I agree that there are many parts which are accessible without dismantling the vehicle. Do however keep in mind that in PZ, there are no car lifts or anything similar, making underbody repair a bit too cramped to be possible in most cases. And you may not be able to reach the broken side of a part, since you always only see the underside while it's attached to the bottom of the car.
With that said, I'd like to see the following needing removal before service:
- Brakes
- Suspension
- Muffler
- Gas Tank
- Lights
Everything else can be reasonably patched in place because it's fully exposed (like windows) or by manipulating the hinges it's on (doors etc).
Speaking of torch repairs. The vanilla game is mostly consistent with requiring a welding mask when using a torch. Your mod seems to skip this requirement. Is this deliberate?
Some good points there. I like your reasoning and definitely on the table for eventual additions to the mod.
The welding mask not being required in repairs will eventually change to being required.
The mod is still young and at this present stage my aim is for maximum compatibility with vehicle mods on the workshop.
Once I get most vehicles on the workshop to work with this mod I'll start adding even more items, repairs, parts and fleshing out the modules even more.

I know you're currently working on the engine part of your mod.
Will your update include engine quality, perhaps some high level way to tune the engine quality up?
Not to 100 ofc, but i heard engines with lower quality than 65 have a high chance to not start during winter. So maybe like up to 70 or something?
Engine quality is massive, as kafkatrap mentioned. Would be nice to get an otherwise decent car away from a single digit engine quality.
Have you ever looked at the vehicles from Tuning Atelier? The Jaap Wrungel, Fjord Mustang and any other Tuning Atelier-adjacent vehicles. I found a Fjord on my server and it has a ton of custom parts. Haven't checked if they have repair recipes if you take them off first or not.
I will take a look and add them to the list...so many custom parts now.. found a few more in KI5s collection that I had previously missed.
I like to remove the existing repairs as they usually have such low level requirements and I feel repairing vehicles\Mechanic work should be more of a mid game career progression path for the unskilled at game start.
Some kind of Engine Repair is definitely on the list. Not sure when but eventually :)
Also doesn't the currently existing engine quality repair mod still work? I have it running but haven't actually tried it.
Any of the Engine repair mods on the workshop should work with this as I have let it all Vanilla until I decide what options to use to tackle engine repair and quality.
