Its pretty easy, ive done it twice now with no failures. First time i chose the science team defense scheme where it gives u a ton of defense bonuses, and the second time i chose the strike force mobilization that gives u like 5 divisions. Just hold the line for the first encounter, if u can survive the first few assaults and have time to get the additional divisions from focuses, u can win pretty easily. Make sure to do the decision that focuses teams on arms production instead of research, and click all the lanius decisions, especially the defense bonus one for the first few assaults. U can also use last stand commander buff if needed.

I standardize my starting units with just the earth defense team template (the non-militia one) and focus all military factories on weapon production to pump out more divisions ASAP.

I take the fortifications, create 20 infantry divisions and then use power armour to push and encircle.

I trained 5 infantry units and go with left side of tree with defence bonuses.Than pick the scientist option that gives you 35% to defence bonus. Best way to do this is microing west side of front where there are Lanius have gaps. Lanius might push you a bit with his chariots, but don't worry, it ironically might be good for you since its easier to encircle his divisions. After taking out couple of them the way to VP's should be clear, so rush them and win. Oh, i almost forgot: Research agrarian techs for 500 manpower and warrior training for decreased training time.
