First of all, there are a lot of parts for a mech, and every part requires multiple frames to make it animated while moving. Check out the vanilla mech parts that are in the game, unpack the files and see some existing mechs in `/vehicles/modularmech` for reference.
Here is a guide on how to unpack the files:
Modding Basics - Unpacking Assets[starbounder.org]
Secondly, a sprite should have a consistent art style, be shaded correctly, and so on.
There is a really good and detailed guide on pixel art over here, you should check it out:
Pixel Art Tutorial - Basics[derekyu.com]
I like your enthusiasm, and if you're up for creating a proper mech - I could use the help :3
animation and fixed lines a bit.
Also, I think it's better if you used Discord for these, rather than this thread.
My username is in my profile, feel free to add me and share your progress there.
i sent a friend request on discord.
They're not "cute kitties" and don't see themselves as such - if anything, they're convinced that they're no different than regular humans, despite having a mostly feline set of instincts, and generally act upon only the practical aspects of things.
For example, with the box it's "I fits, it's safe, it's simple, it works", and with the lavish bed it's like a "collection of my fun/cool stuff that's comfy to sleep in", but I can't imagine a Neki going out of their way to specifically craft something like a scratching post, when just about anything around them (with the right texture) would serve that purpose just fine... same thing with a toilet :3
Furniture sets suggestion; ~~~; this is an idea for what a race other than a Neki's scan would say! ("this is an idea for what a Neki scan would say!")
Ruined set;
Ruined couches, ottamans, and beds; similar to the window drapes, has tears with stuffing falling out, scratches; A ruined couch/bed/ottaman. A great place for a catnap. ("My very own!")
Stuffing, small decorative blobs of stuffing; Several wads of cotton. ("A bundle of fun.")
Rummaged cabinet, acts as a hiding spot; Something has been in here. ("My secret bunker!")
Scratches, transparent decal with various scratch markings; Feline claw marks. ("X marks the spot!")
Kotatsu set;
(Japanese heated blanket table), An interesting bed that Neki will sleep under, but can still be used as a surface; A traditional Japanese heated table. ("It's so warm underneath!")
Colorful pillows on floor to go aside it to be used as chairs.
Misc Neki decor;
Shattered dishes; What was that noise? ("It's just so fun!")
Knocked over glass, empty and liquid variants; What a mess. ("Down it goes!")
Potted catnip; A plant with strange feline properties. ("Is it just me or is it getting hot in here?")
Dumpster garden; A repurposed dumpster with purple and white flowers. ("Some sexy throwabuddy!")
Anti-Neki decor; (if you choose to make this, please come up with a better name :( )
Anti-Neki Propaganda Poster; Humanity united. Work together to eradicate Earth of genetic trash. [works as human decor instead]
Vandalized Anti-Neki Propaganda Poster; Incomprehensible scribbles. Ooh a little :3 face. ("Mr. Meowington the 2nd.") [actually works as Neki-decor instead]
