So give that a try if you haven't yet.
edit: nvm, seems the issue returned after restarting the game a few hours later, even though I haven't changed anything. Different items this time around though, including items from the base game, so the issue might not even be related to this mod.
edit 2: I think I nailed it down to the following mod: Awesome Inventory (Unofficial)
After removing that I'm seeing the heads again and the errors are gone. That mod was causing plenty of other issues as well, I'm going to give [KV] Change Dresser a try as a replacement.
It's more annoying than being a problem but if anyone knows which mod might cause it I'd be thankful
For those who are having the problem of heads disappearing when equipping a quiver, have you installed "Packs Are Not Belts"?
Or, do you have the option to change the equipped position of quivers and ammo packs checked in the settings?
I was in the same situation, but by removing the check from the settings I was able to equip the quiver and ammo pack without any problems.
