Too long for a comment. Question/suggestion.
Great mod but a question/suggestion.
Before I launched my first game with COW2 I thought new buildings would be boosted versions of vanilla buildings that would fit in a city (barracks,sure...hunting lodges, maybe not).
Now buildings which are in are great but some of them stack weirdly with ducal buildings and if some of them stack with themselves balance would be hugely off with multiple metropolises.

Right now I already own three Rome (yeay for Pope gold..), Florence, and decided to have Granada as my capital (it's going to practically unsiegable. Walls of Constantinople are going to look humble in comparison).

There are two defensive buildings and palace which overlap ducal buildings (Marches and Leisure Palaces). And stacking universities...hey who doesn't want +30-50% extra lifestyle experience.
Moving some of those to the ducal-slot and taking a look at realm bonuses of others (+5% renown for one Metro building with multiples for +60-80% renown is way is too much)

Is that even possible? Ducals aren't hardlocked or anything?
Obviously there is no need to build them all and if players want to powergame it's going happen no matter what but I feel right now it's a bit too easy,

It’s intentional for the Metropolis unique buildings to be regular buildings, and not duchy or special buildings.

Stacking the buildings modifiers is also a vanilla issue. You can for example hold Constantinople, Baghdad, Paris, Jerusalem and so on to stack the modifiers provided by the special buildings. You can also stack the vanilla universities, but it’s a bit harder to get the necessary development everywhere. Personally, I don’t think it’s fun to go that overboard and stretch your domain so far to mini-max.

Of course, the issue is even more present in COW2 since you can have your entire domain consist of Metropolises and stack all of the buildings’ modifiers together. This mod was never intended for the type of players that will cheese everything they can to stack all the modifiers. Anyway, I’m going to introduce a limit of max 3 Metropolis holdings in your domain. If you have more than that then all the unique Metropolis buildings will be disabled.
