Otter breeding?

Are otters not breedable witht his mod? I'm not getting a mate boost heart from them and when put on mating, nothing happens.

Also, does anyone know if there is a substitute for angler gel for the living nest?

They should breed no problem. I have bred plenty of them on The Island.
Also there is no substitute for the Gel. Of note it's better to harvest it with a hatchet or eat it with a Basi.
