Shoggoth Slime is VERY expensive for how easy it is to obtain. Price should either be heavily reduced or set to 0.

Unless you have sand on your starting planet, you are unable to even start getting equipment and armour unless you are lucky enough to have villages spawn in. Could that be something that is changed? Other than that the mod is great for how new it is.

These two concerns are both valuable and will get tweaked in the next update or patch.

For the novakids, instead of bleeding lava, because they die like all the others in lava, how about... "Organic Plasma", and the info: "This liquid is novakid blood. It's composed of different ionised gasses. It's pulsing with live energy, probably keeping it from vaporising. I wonder what will happen if I..." and then glow effect on something, like on the organs, or a gore-bomb, that kills everything in a big bloody explosion, worse than in "Blood Mod" and junks of flesh everywhere and start to crawl around to attack what ever might have survived, besids the thrower. Maybe. No refunds. ... A craftable pet. Not the ship pet. A capture pod pet. Like an eldrith flesh or blood golem, or something. Maybe something with individualization, like legs, wings heads, claws, something like that. Just so, that we can call our blood dripping nightmare Bob or Mr. Hugs in the end.

Truthfully, they bleed gas, more like hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, etc, generally noble gases, but for the sake of not making a whole new "gas" and such, and possibly run into more incompatibilities (This was before the compat-patch), it was chosen to use lava instead to save on resources.

Also, nice ideas, but beware not to bloat the mod too much. We're not wizards, we only make weird slimy creatures, not randomly-generated-customizable-homunculi (yet? Maybe? No?) although, all in all, some variation of this could be made up.

Will look into weaponized Nova-gas, and consider the homunculus, but i can't guarantee it'll be anywhere near customizable.

So far I'm having fun with the race. Still pretty early on into the playthough so I don't have too much to say from a balance perspective, but I would say it would be nice to have some more blocks to play with, especially some fleshy, slimy platforms and slopes, and maybe a sort of membrane-like "glass". Would go a long way for people like me who play with BYOS from one place or another.

I love this mod! The shoggoth is really cute. As soon as I saw it on the Workshop I just had to play as one.

However, it does suffer from issues. I would like this race to be as good as it can, so after having two games completed with her I decided to leave some feedback.

BALANCE:
  • Shoggoth Slime, Blood and Sap are ridiculously valuable, as the first commenter said. NPCs can use the Blood Bank and they basically bleed forever. My friends got tens of thousands of pixels just by placing one in a town. It'd make sense to have its value set to 0, just as any other block or liquid.
  • Stem Cells should be at least twice the price in Plant Fibre. It makes little sense to farm for meat when one can just hop into a lush/forest planet, cut vines and get hundreds.
  • "Your Arm!" has some mad speed and range. I know it makes sense for a shoggoth, but for gameplay reasons it should, at least, be an upgrade to the Grappling Hook. Maybe bumping the price a bit could do.
  • Shoggoths should be immune to the Shoggoth Slime slow-down effect. I don't know if that is possible in the vanilla game, as I only play FU nowadays, but it would be logical.
  • Given how few minerals are used in the making of Shoggoth Organs, the current price of 30 bars to upgrade the Organ Lab seems too high. Maybe adding bio-materials to the recipe and lowering the amount of bars would make better sense.
  • Blood Bags are very cheap, hence they outperform Salves. What would you think of bumping its healing capability, but adding another item to the recipe? Also, making them craftable only in the Apothecary.
  • Having each organ increase a single stat often means that using one of them, in conjunction with armors in the same tier, will give better results than a full set of organs would do. It's an interesting mechanic but it sorta makes one feel weaker than other characters in the same tier.

COMPATIBILITY:
  • No Shoggoth container seems to be sortable (or able to stack food) by the Enhanced Storage mod. Is there anything that can be done about this? Or are these sort of issues the other modder's problem? Furthermore, are fans allowed to make SRM patches for these mods?
  • Ditto with Augment Slots for Armor / Armor Augments. I keep forgetting which one is the up-to-date version.
  • There's a liquid ID conflict with the Arcana mod. Arcane Water (don't know which one) gets replaced with Sap, giving way to weird sap oceans. May I suggest changing the Blood, Shoggoth Slime and Sap IDs to 224, 225 & 226? The modding wiki says these are the IDs for a "pee, liquid pain & liquid death" mod... which I feel fewer people will miss.
  • I know you guys dislike FU, and I know Sayter is a douchebag, but for some of us that mod has brought back the motivation to keep playing together. Vanilla Starbound just feels too empty. But anyway, the last Shoggoth EPP doesn't protect your character against certain FU effects like pressure, extremely deadly cold/heat/radiation, and so forth. Is there any way these effects could be added to the list of protections when FU is detected? I know it sounds overpowered, but it would make sense for our little slimy eldritch abomination to be All-Terrain.

ART:
Warning — Subjective opinions ahead!

  • Right now, the Traditional Shoggoth set doesn't feel close to the original Monster Girl Encyclopedia outfit. It's obviously difficult to depict details at such a scale, but perhaps some streaks of black and random eye-dots would make it look more accurate.
  • The furniture looks real pretty, but I'm having a hard time with both the Blood Bank and the Organ Lab. Huge eyesores. The former seems to lack tri-dimensionality due to the absent shading and the latter doesn't really change much when upgrading. Doesn't seem to have any shading, either. I'm always forced to keep these two outside of my base/home.

Having said that, I'm very happy with the result of your efforts and I don't think I'd ever play without this mod from now on. Me and my friends are hooked on the Shoggoth's cuteness and style.

I'll check your Discord out — I'd love helping you guys, perhaps by adding descriptions to most vanilla items to resemble their personalities. For what I saw, shoggoths seem to talk in a Lovecraftian manner, a writing style I'm accustomed to.

Thanks for creating this race! :necroheart:

There's a Shoggoth in Monster Musume? 😐

Personally I find the outfit looks okay, though I guess I get how some might point out the missing dark details here and there on the traditional outfit. It just appears that there isn't enough pixel space in there to squeeze it all in.

The only problem I see right now is a technical issue. "Your Arm!" doesn't appear to be working, or maybe it's due to some specific mod in use. It just makes me hold my hand out.

Can anyone here use that item alongside Frackin' Universe?

Whoops, I meant Monster Girl Encyclopedia. For some reason I keep mixing these up.
And yes, working with such a small amount of pixels is certainly hard, though some maid outfits from the Skittles Collection seem to fit better than the one currently in the mod. It is cute, anyhow!

Your Arm! is working fine for me with FU. Do you have any other mod that alters grappling hooks?
Z'uldiss Jan 25, 2021 @ 1:14am
Finally I think to check back.

I have no idea. I could try starting over and seeing.🤔
The only shoggoth is a crewmember though, with myself as a shadow/Tenebrhae person, so it's not a big deal, and the AI doesn't use grappling hooks, though I still want to see how Your Arm! looks in action anyway.

Hey, so I tried giving my playmates (a neko and a kirhos) the Your Arm! a few days ago and they were able to use it without issues. The arm was still purple, of course. I don't know if it could be an specific Tenebrhae problem, but at least it doesn't seem to be caused by FU or other races. Have you tried with FU, this mod and nothing else?

The shoggoth shiphatch (the horizontal one) is too narrow to fit the default shiphatch openings
