Hearts of Iron IV

Hearts of Iron IV

ONE YEAR WAR
Ideas - Earth Theaters controlled by Generals & Jaburo
So, I originally was going to post this under the “Contents from Zeta,ZZ,CCA,UC?” discussion but I felt this is better to be its own discussion as I started writing more than I thought. But first of all, I want to thank the One Year War modding Team as I’ve been waiting for a Mod like this for a long time :). As both a Hearts of Iron and Gundam fan, again thank you!

My initial intent of writing this post was to address the idea of subdividing the Earth Federation into different Theaters (or Countries) within the Faction as a whole. But as I kept writing I added another idea and might have made it kind of complex. I hope I’m not repeating anyone someone else’s ideas, but I hope this helps!

As I played the Federation (at the Third Start Date of April UC 0079), I noticed Zeon's Expansion and the Troops all over the map. I'm someone who barely Micro-Manages I forget what's going on in multiple fronts as the game progressed. There would be breaches within my lines, which of course simulate Zeon's Blitz tactics in a way. I began to wonder what if each Front or Theater was given to their respective Generals from the U.C. timeline. Hence, I started going down the rabbit hole of the multiple Theaters acting as autonomous puppets under the Earth Federation wing.

Idea One: Main Faction with Theaters Generals controlling Autonomous Zones

Just adding into the discussion about factions, I was thinking if the Federation and Zeon had the ability to split off areas of the Earth to give command to Generals in charge of each area. In the Federation's Case: General Revil is the Faction Leader for the Earth Federation, Isan Ryer, by decision or event, is given full command of the Asian Theater,... While in Zeon's Case: Gihren Zabi is still the Faction Leader, a decision or event is made to give control of the North American Theater to Garma Zabi.

I do see two ways this can work;

Way One – From the Start feeding into the Next Eras of the UC Timeline

In the beginning of U.C. 0075 with all the Generals already having control of each Theater on Earth (Federation). General Revil control's South America, or at least *Jaburo. If the game is set to not historical, using the dynamic focus trees for each zone will provide an interesting replayability. Maybe the European Theater may turn into a pre-Titan Faction; then, are given a focus to break away or stay within the Earth Federation which in turn would provide +0.03 Earth Supremacist to the Faction Leader General Revil or EF High Command. The Earth Federation would be given decisions to embrace it or combat the ideology. These decisions would be costly if implemented during the War but embracing certain segments of the Faction would provide good and bad consequences. This would then segway or simulate itself to UC 0083 where you'll have these factions developing into the Titans and finally into Zeta Gundam.

Way Two- War Breaks Out, Delegate Command if needed, and Supply those Zones

As mentioned in the beginning, the War breaks out and the Earth Federation and Zeon need to handle different fronts, they give command of certain areas to their Generals. In a form of decisions or events, Gihren Zabi and General Revil will choose which areas of the Earth to delegate command to their Generals as they take full control of the areas that are not delegated. What this creates is a game of chances and less micromanagement, where you'll have to rely on your general's capabilities and your ability to ship them the equipment needed to maintain their respective area. Resources would have to be imported from the the Theater to continue Production. In the case of Zeon, they can ship a fixed number of resources to Space through decisions that'll allocate their convoys to the task, just like how M'Quve said "Zeon can fight for another ten years if necessary!". For each attempt on moving the Resource to Space, the resource in Odessa will permanently reduce. As they keep moving said resources to space, shipments could be destroyed if intercepted by the EF (or Captured, and moved to Luna II) ideally losing the resource gain permanently and the convoy's that would've been better used for the frontlines. What your creating at this point is a game of risk management, you may feel you'll win but you'll have to move said resources to space as a backup plan.

I am assuming this would be easier to implement than Way One for Idea One.

Idea Two: Jaburo Underground Mega-Industrial Complex

*In regard to Jaburo, would you be adding Military/Civilian Factories to Jaburo, unless I missed something or haven't played it through all the way yet? I apologize as I just started playing the mod yesterday.

Jaburo itself is a mega-industrial complex underground facility where the Earth Federation built a majority of their mobile suits, spaceships… it is the lifeline of the Earth Federation manufacturing and supplies. Using the 2nd Way of the Idea above, delegating equipment to those who need it would fit this scenario (which in turn Zeon shipping MS & equipment down from space too). Even dividing up certain parts of the Amazon (just like how the Space Colonies are divided into three sections) to look like an Underground Complex with multiple entrances within the Amazon. Using the Mountain blocking feature from the Base Game, you can create pathways within the Amazon and create Jaburo. Again, there are two possible ways of create the Entrances into Jaburo.

Way One- Special Modifier for the Entrances (or Lv. 10 Bunkers)

With a special modifier of defense throughout the Entrances of Jaburo, which resembles Zeon trying to pinpoint the entrance as each attack would fail. Using decisions, Zeon when bordering the said Entrance can start bombarding Jaburo. Each bombardment would either permanently, temporarily or do no damage to the Military/Civilian Factories & also a chance to discover an Entrance which would take away the Modifier or destroy the Bunkers. The flaw with this idea is having a Division holding the position, I'm not sure if the AI would keep a unit in each entrance.

Way Two- Demilitarized Entrances

You can use the demilitarized feature from the Base Game, where Germany cannot move troops into the Rhineland. These demilitarized zones would act as the "Entrances" into Jaburo, once the Entrance is found the demilitarized zone goes away. Giving Zeon the Ability to move into the Tunnels, and maneuver around from within. Entrances can be either be found by having the decision when bordering a “possible” entrance (which would take time and be harder to achieve for Zeon) and/or use the focus where the Red Comet discovers an Entrance, or even an Event.

Again Thank You for y'alls hard work, I'll keep funneling issues/suggestions/ideas whenever I can. I might be on this mod for the next few months, also for the record I'm a Earth Feddie!

TL;DR
Idea One: Main Faction with Theaters Generals controlling Autonomous Zones
-Way One: From the Start feeding into the Next Eras of the UC Timeline
-Way Two: War Breaks Out, Delegate Command if needed, and Supply those Zones
Idea Two: Jaburo Underground Mega-Industrial Complex
-Way One: Special Modifier for the Entrances (or Lv. 10 Bunkers)
-Way Two: Demilitarized Entrances
Earth Federation won, suck it Zeon! (But we can be AEUG buddies XD)

Thank you for your great suggestions.
I'm not good at micromanagement either, so to tell you the truth, I found it much more difficult to play in the Federation.
The idea of splitting the federation is exactly one of the big plans we're trying to tackle right now! I've gotten a lot of tips from your suggestions.
Jaburo has improved almost nothing now. I think your suggestion will make the Jaburo capture very interesting.
I'd love to hear your ideas again.

If you developers do decide to do this would it be added as a sub mod ( so like optional) or too bad you get it? either ways cool It's just I know my self and others would prefer to have a large federation

We plan to incorporate this update into the body of the game as the next big Federation Update after the Space Update, and not as a Sub Mod:sans:
