@Bill Wilson - It's a mix of performance and pathfinding issues. Battles can still be quite large, though yes, larger ships like Lucrehulks or Mandators will take up a significant chunk of your pop cap. This is an easy thing to modify though- it's a value in each faction's entry in Factions.xml
So I checked it out and there it is:
<Space_Tactical_Unit_Cap>200</Space_Tactical_Unit_Cap>
All you need to do is change it to 300 for both the CIS(Rebels) and the Republic(Empire).
When I go into the XML folder I only see a file named "GAMECONSTANTS"?
The submod mentioned above does not seem to work anymore.
It does still work, if you right-click the main game Empire at War -> Properties -> Launch Options. Unfortunately, petro broke shortcuts, so setting up EAW as a non-steam game and putting the steam codes in there doesn’t work without the unofficial fix below.
MOD LAUNCHING FIX:
1) Create file:
steam_appid.txt
2) With text in it:
32470
3) Place it in folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Empire at War\corruption
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\32470\1976399102\Data\XML
1976399102 is the file you're looking for in the workshop/content area, then you get to Data choose the XML File folder. After that scroll down to Factions.XML.
Don't choose FACTIONFILES.XML or FactionFilesFoTR.XML.
Once you've opened up Factions.XML in an editor(I suggest Notepad++) you'll either need to control+F for quick search or scroll down to this line:
<Space_Tactical_Unit_Cap>200</Space_Tactical_Unit_Cap>
After that you can set it to 300 or higher if you want. I'd suggest doing it for every Faction in the list but thats just my preference.
After that don't forget to click save, then load up your version of the game and try out a skirmish battle to see if it took effect. If so, then you're done! Have fun playing with the old 300 standard or however many pop slots you put in.
Hope this helps.
