I'm not an expert on this but I have an idea. In making stuff like these you need a few programs, to cover the different stages of its creation. you first need to sketch, then model and apply textures and what not. I think adobe photoshop or other drawing software like SAI can be used to cover the first stage, C4D, Maya can be used to create the 3D model, and software like Zbrush can be used to fine-tune it.

I love this set so much already, kudos to its creator. Without overstepping my boundaries as one of the many who's merely going to own a copy, I would like to suggest some symmetry with the headpiece, at least there be a similar horn on the other side of the head.

We used Photoshop/Sai for the concept, Zbrush for the sculpt, 3dsMax for the Lowpoly modelling and skinning and then Mudbox for the textures.

Helps that we work with said programs for a living as well so we have licenses etc.

Fantastic job guys! Couldn't even recognize a hero at the first glance, but still awesome. Let's hope Valve will accept this set as 'thematically adequate'.
