Lore
Alright folks, I'm going to use this discussion as a place to put the lore, so everyone can have a better idea of what's going on in the States/North America as a whole.

Starting in the late 1800s, socialism began to pick up traction in the U.S, slowly. Its influence came and went between elections until the Great Depression, at which point its popularity soared. Socialists lost and gained control of the House, constantly fighting for it with the Republicans and Democrats, whose policies increasingly became similar until their merge in 1956 to become the Republican-Democrat Party, after the pro-socialists of the Democratic Party abandoned ship and joined the socialists. By the 1970s, all any non-socialists could do was to slow the socialist’s agenda, with little hope of stopping it all together. Even though the years following the massive increase of socialist policies brought economic ruin, social unrest, surge of crime, the socialists were able to successfully blame the “party of no”, the Republican-Democrats. In 2009, a new movement arose, one that started to challenge the socialists. It began in South and quickly spread across the country. The American Nationalist Party soon came to challenge the Socialist Party of America, gaining more and more seats in the House and Senate, as well as governors. The socialists, who had already begun to rip up the U.S Constitution, decided they couldn’t tolerate this and began to arrest Nationalist governors, Senators, Representatives, and prominent Nationalist figures, all on trumped up charges. By 2014, the U.S, particularly the South, faced dozens of riots and protests as more and more Nationalists were arrested. Large portions of the U.S military was deployed in the South to quell the rebellions. However, they were ill equipped when the rioters fought back. The military had been gutted many times, and most of the men were poorly lead, equipped, and trained. Then, the Battle of Houston in 2017 changed everything.

“Rebels”, as they were labeled by the U.S government, stormed several government buildings, including police stations, National Guard armories, administration buildings, and the like. They armed themselves with the weaponry they seized and attempted a march on Austin. Before they even leave the city, however, they were faced with U.S Marines. The “rebels” fell back and “fortified” the streets, once again a term used by the U.S government to justify the atrocities committed there. The civilians blocked a few streets with cars and garbage and raised the Texan flag in the city center. When the Marines arrived, they were told to disperse the crowd by any means necessary. They advanced, and the civilians fired a warning shot. What followed was nothing short of a massacre.

The inexperienced Marines opened fire with live ammunition. Rifles, LMGs, and even explosives were used to kill all 250 “rebels”. These “rebels” didn’t fire another shot after the original warning.

This was the last straw for Garrick Madison, the governor of Indiana, mobilized the Indiana National Guard. Indiana was part of the Pact of Six, a well-known “secret” organization that included governors and administrators from six states (Indiana, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington state) that focused on smuggling in weapons to arm their National Guards and state militias. These were the only states with active Nationalists governors (other than Texas, though much of their administrators were). Their police and National Guards refused to cooperate with Federal forces, thus they were stripped of as much of their arms as the Feds could take and banned them from getting more.

Madison saw that what happened in Houston was the best rallying cry the Nationalists could hope for to end the socialist stranglehold on the country (at this point the only reason they held the government was because of illegal actions taken against political enemies). So, Madison arrested all Federal forces in the state and made a public statement aimed at two groups of people. The first part of the speech was a call for the socialist government to restore free elections and step down from power. The second was aimed at the Nationalists in general and the Pact of Six in particular. It was a call to arms, to rise and expel or arrest all Federal forces in their states and prepare their National Guards to pressure the government to submit to their demands. Madison’s call to arms was left unanswered.
Indiana was left out to dry. Federal forces were redirected to the Indiana border. The Hoosier forces couldn’t just back down. Madison was to be executed and everyone who rallied to him were to be arrested. So, for three months, the Federal Army built up their military on the Indiana border. The U.S military was, at this point, weaker than it had ever really been. Many men were conscripts and barely knew what end the bullet came out of. Many others agreed with the Indiana demands. Before the Federal soldiers could question their loyalty to the Union more than they already had, the American military invaded. It was a debacle for the Hoosier forces at first, being pushed back at all fronts except at the Ohio River in the south, where the Hoosier line held. Within two weeks, Federal forces were nearing Indianapolis from the north. Luckily, the advances to the east and west were halted, while the Americans were able to gain control of the Ohio River, though they couldn’t advance very far into Indiana from the south. Then, Madison sent out one last call for help. This time, the Texans answered.

With Federal forces distracted with Indiana, Texan militias launched dozens of attacks and gained control of nearly a third of the state in a mere three days. By then, the entire Pact of Six had risen up, forcing the Feds to pause their advance into Indiana and redirect. It was too late. Anti-socialist forces all over the nation formed, and almost the entire Union was rebelling. The war raged from 2017 to 2021, when Federal forces surrendered after the Hoosiers laid siege to St. Louis and took the city without a single shot.
With the war over, the various rebel armies, which all had different leaders, goals, ideologies, and demands, met in Denver, Colorado (present day Deseret). All these factions couldn’t agree on anything. The Californians, New English, and much of the South (excluding Texas) wanted the republic restored. The Hoosiers, Cascadians, and Texans wanted a “temporary” suspense of elections, so the nation could recover. These three factions faced the worst of the devastation of the war, particularly Indiana and Texas. In their terrible time of need, they turned towards strong leaders to unite them. After a year of negotiations, and the development of new national identities in a few of the new territories, forces everyone to break off negotiations. These nation retreated to their new borders, and began their paths towards greatness.

Now, if people like this idea, I can continue this and dive into countries and explain them better, one by one. Thoughts?
