I will think about the recipes for your items and if you got time you can too. Remember this mod is for utility big and heavy parts not making the game easier in general.
2x unusable metal + welding torch + welding mask = 1 scrap metal
(x amount) unusable metal + welding torch + welding mask = 1 metal bar
And so on.
What do you think?
Mod is balance around MetalValue of items in the game, to not make the game too easy or too hard.
The idea is good but the mod already has a way to create MetalPipe, MetalBar... and can also use UnusableMetal. You need to find and read Metal-Junk Magazine Vol.3 and you can use JunkMetal to craft Metal items.
Check the last image to see what you can craft from JunkMetal - you will need to read Magazine Vol.3 and have JunkMetal, Hammer, WeldingMask and BlowTorch.
In conclusion Your idea is good but the mod is already have those recipes.
1) the Creation glue from plastic.
New item:
Plastic pieces (I suggest the structure of the volume of an object such as water, tablets and so on. It's hard for me to describe it, I hope you understand what I mean). Can be obtained by sawing plastic debris, such as an empty bottle of bleach, comb, some toys.
Homemade hot melt adhesive, can be used in only when it is heated (on fire or in microwave). Hardens in 20-30 minutes of game time, after which again require heating.
Homemade glue and Strong homemade duct tape (30% weaker than the original.)
Homemade duct tape (50% weaker than the original.)
Recipes:
Metal tank (Determines the maximum capacity) + plastic pieces = Homemade hot melt adhesive.
Metal container + plastic pieces + (for 100 grams "plastic pieces") 0.2 grams of gasoline or 1 bleach = Homemade glue
Homemade glue + fabric = self-made tape
Glue + fabric = Strong homemade duct tape.
2) Tearing of books on the sheets. For ignition, you can use paper sheets or books. I think it's wasteful, because the book 220-380 pages (it's ~110-190 sheets). Of course we don't have to clean the sheets.
In the original fashion I lack realism.
1) for Example mass mismatch. If we recycle a door with a weight of 10 kilograms, we get 1 junk metal with a weight of 0.5. Or recycle a shovel weighing 1.5, we get x4 junk metal (from the mass of 1.5 we get a mass of 2. Although in theory we should get less, because the handle made of wood). At that time, for 100 nails (total weight 300 grams) we need 5 kilograms of junk metal.
I believe that in most cases if we recycle an item that is 100% metal and has a weight of 15 kg, we should get "junk metal" with the same weight (amount of 30 items).
2) Some items are too easy and unrealistic to create (exception - Scrap weapons and welding rods).
Inside the game there is a blank for the future "Smithing".
Mod "More Traits" allows you to unlock recipes "Smithing" (but they are useless). In addition, there is a mod "Blacksmith" (which by the way can melt "junk metal"), which unlocks the developers harvested objects and objects for "Smithing" +silent finalizes.
Perhaps you could combine mods (Blacksmith+Junk Metal) or add "Smithing" yourself for Junk Metal.
Amendments. The standard furnace has a capacity of 50 kg Is too much. For realism and balance 5-10 is enough (in addition, it will justify the existence of Junk Metal + Junk Metal should have a bonus x2 to the melting rate, if possible).
It took me some time to get some information about production and usage of glue and plastic, but now I got basic knowledge about this topic.
I think I understand what you mean with volume of an object. The easiest method to obtain plastic is to mix Milk with Vinegar using kitchen stove, but the durability is low quality.
Method proposed by you will require scraps of plastic with plastic pieces with a lot of heat with usage of Pot to make it "soft" to pour into a form. The biggest disadvantage is to make a form for the plastic and it will cool down quickly. This idea has some potential, because there are a lot of plastic parts to recycle. There are two things that make me wonder. Is it safe for health to eat from that kind of plastic? How many items will be able to craft from this new material?
From that I can recall if you want to repair item like an Axe, the fixing item is in the item itself (code). It will be hard to add new item that can repair broken items like "Homemade Glue".
Glue and Duct Tape are very useful tools and I don't want to change the balance of the game. I don't know how to create a Duct Tape but, a recipe for Glue is pretty easy: White Cheese, Calcium, Water with use of Mortal.
Option to tear Books and Magazines can be easy to implement but it will require some research, but it's a very good idea.
About the lack realism:
On the one hand, you're right but metal is not equal to metal. Mod is balanced around MetalValue - original game value for all the metal items in the game, not the weight of the item. In short metal quality is not the same for all the items like fork and hammer. Every time you create something with Scrap Metal you are losing MetalValue if you compare components and the result - because you learned this skill from the magazine and you are not master of Metalworking.
Smithing the items are also balances around MetalValue. I know this is not perfect but the whole concept of this modification is to clean up unuseful items like broken car parts and recycle the metal for something useful. For now Metalworking is not existing in the game and this is a substitute, if the developers decide to finish this skill than we can talk about it.
Making ammunition:
From that I can recall (don't have the game installed) there is a way to get gunpowder in the base game by dismantling ammunition. Bullet and cartridge case can be acquired by bending metal so it's not a problem to make recipes. I don't know how to make primer so it should be found on map as a very rare item.
Making ammunition conclusion:
Junk Metal Magazine - with new recipes, bullet, cartridge and a new tool for crafting (for all calibers)
Creating Box of Ammo - all bullet parts + primer (only can be found) + gunpowder - Process will lose some gunpowder and required some level of Metalwork.
New ammunition types:
Its easy to make items but changeging the lua of bullet mechanic is something that I would not like to do.
Adding new recipes:
I did not add items like crowbar because it doesn't have model, and new items will be added when missing models will be added to the game.
This is my interpretation of you ideas. What do you think? Got any suggestions?
I will try to update mod when build 41 will be live not in beta so please have patience.
You can recycle metal pipes into scrap metal and so on.
the trait seems to upgrade it to crowbar+ or something, wondered if scrap crowbars could do the same
the accessories give the same. and scrapping speed is too slow.
I hope you that scrapping car parts give more junk metal and
accessories scrapping time be more faster.
Other things, under the influence of them,
make piece of metal have to be made x4 or more
crafting bullets request too little gunpowder and too much ingot.
I think the ingot be connected the things weight is good.
cooking fan gives 6 junk metal is weird too.
I love your mod and those ideas are very good.
I hope some balance patch for this mod. Thank you.
