You should get a prompt once you hit end game, about searching stellarite. Also, I think you can get it sooner using some ACOT submod (secret of the gate I think), but I don't know how.

Stellarite can be obtained in Secrets Beyond The Gates by asking the Curators, which immediately starts the research project. Alternatively, getting past the first riddle for the Outer Gates lets you skip the project, though you still need a suitable scientist. If you want it faster, picking the mark of the stars for the second riddle will let you research it immediately, without the need for a level 10 scientist.

How do you get the riddle of the outer gate in the first place?

After the Gatekeepers turn hostile, kill them and take control of the system. Soon after, you will get an anomaly. Send a science ship over and research the Outer Gate.

Once that is done, you need a keystone. Make one, buy one or punch a fallen empire until you have one. Then wait until you have a second anomaly on the Outer Gate, which should not take too long. Once again, research the anomaly. Once this second anomaly has been researched, you get the first riddle.

If you have picked the wrong answer, wait until the anomaly pops back up and research it for another shot. Repeat until you have the correct answer. Once you have the correct answer, you will soon be able to research the anomaly again for the second riddle. Repeat until the second riddle is answered correctly. Finally, research the anomaly one final time, wait ten years and die.

Large ships with a ring that can only be found by the Outer Gates. You get a message from them when you first enter a system with an Outer Gate, provided they are not yet hostile.

I have never used, nor have I seen AI use, Stellarite. It might as well not be in the mod at all.

That's mainly because the AI is too dumb to even use dark matter tech and precursor ships. Stellarite is mainly used for fighting the Stellarborne crisis.

I killed the gatekeepers, but there's no anomaly showing up. Is it because I attacked them while they were still neutral?

Yes. The procedure remains the same, however. A random amount of time after midgame, one of the shields surrounding the Outer Gates goes down. This is when the Gatekeepers turn hostile. After the inner shield is down, the anomaly can show up if you own a Gate.

I got the popup to start researching Stellarite in the mid game a year or so after creating a Void Sphere.

I also can't seem to get stellarite. I have spark of genius lvl 10 scientist on physics but it just won't show, I even tried it with/without flags for stellarite sucess. Do I need the beyond the gates mod for that level of tech?

You do not. You need the scientist in physics, which you have, the country flag stellarite_tech_enable and research tier 8. With these, the tech can show up randomly for non-FEs. If it's not showing up, there are three things I would like you to check.

First, double-check that your scientist has the vanilla Spark of Genius. There are mods that add upgraded versions, but those do not work for getting Stellarite because they're different traits that ACOT doesn't check for.

Second, make sure that you have the required flag and research tier.

Third, run "techweights phy" in the console. It shows you every physics tech that you can research, including ones not currently listed as options.

If you have the right flag, research tier and trait, and if techweights phy doesn't list the Stellarite tech, you have a bug.

It was the spark of genius trait. I had to add the vanilla one to my scientist and it worked.
