Anbennar: A Fantasy Total Conversion
Hoardcurse
Hoardcurse needs some serious rework. I went bankrupt 3 times in a row trying to deal with it.

Spend all your money to delay the disaster and build economy, fire your guys, dont be army over limit, fight corruption, dont get any loans, ever. Start by the cheaper bank reforms and keep in mind that almost every option you will have to pay two or three times the amount. Make some wars for money. Good luck!

you need to plan wisely, ive done it with no bankruptcy on my 4 attempt. (bare in mind it was also my 4th time ever playing the mod) i had 50 loans, i spent a lot prior thinking i wouldnt get any. i had 15k in the bank at the time, despite the loans i was fine, never went into the minus aka i was always making money even with 50 loans. personally id say it needs to be harder

i found only placing buildings on holds is best, dont build any manus until its over either, and save at least 15k if not more, which at the point of getting hoardcurse is easy to do.

skill issue, save up 10-15k before rather than spending, and don't proceed with any wars while its on and you'll be just fine. As dwarves you'll snowball anyway- easily can achieve 5k income by 1700, and that will allow you to go like 1m over force limit

What is the trigger that enables the disaster to start ticking? There's no way to save all that much once it shows up after all...

Okay, found it, and I have to ask: does every other starting situation have a similar "screw you for playing the game well" disaster? Because if not it's a complete b&%%$#@t event chain of the absolute worst sort. Getting punished for following your missions is total crap...

Anbennar is a roleplay mod first and foremost. If you want to play a totally balanced version play one of the multiplayer submods. The events are something interesting you have to deal with during an otherwise boring game of painting the mountains what ever color you chose. Not to mention that if you navigate it properly you end up better off in the end. Seems fine to me.

Dwarves are specifically hit with several disasters to balance that they otherwise run away and have crazy economies quite fast.

some other starts have disasters too, but dwarves specifically are hit by a ton of them(up to 6 irc, depending on what nation you play) since they scale so stupidly well with the hold mechanics.

as for hoardcurse specifically, in order for it to get ticking, you need 150 income, or 10k cash in the bank, as well as having 600 development.

There is a general disconnect between people that play anbennar a lot and those that only check it out, and the people that play it a lot usualy are very rude and dont like to explain things.

If its your first time, hoardcurse will most likely hit you at a bad time, with no preparations.
but once you understand how it works, its kinda laughably easy to mitigate and breeze through.

Basically, to "fix" hoardcurse, you need to spend a ton of money, but said money is calculated on your income, so you can cheese it by intentionally lower you income once it fires.

Thus, to have an easy time with hoardcurse, you start saving up cash once you hit around 500 development/100 income.
That way you will have more than enough money to take all the needed decisions once it triggers.

when it starts ticking, make sure to reduce your income as much as possible, by doing things like diverting trade away from where you collect.
fire all your advisors and put army maintenance to 0

just before it fires, make sure to debase your currency till you have 10 corruption.
this is a good influx of cash, while the corruption will get cleared by one of the decisions you need to take anyway to end the hoardcurse.

following that guideline its easily possible to beat hoardcurse without taking a single loan.

and once you beat it, you get a nice strong modifier as a reward for the next 100 years.
