Why can't they use containers?

I don't want the food/weapons/supplies to be on the ground, i want them in a fridge/locker/crate!
Is that possible?

Sure,i crate canned and dry goods,refrigerate perishables,and crate weapons and ammo.The npcs dont appear to have problems taking things out of the above,not sure if they put things into storage though.
