Survivor combat
The major problem I have with the mod right now is survivor combat. Two issues:
1) Probably simple: They always close with enemies. This does two thinngs, a) They usually get too close so they push the zombie away instead of using their weapon, b) They draw more zombies in by moving forward and attracting more.
Probably a bit more difficult than I'm thinking. First part would be stop closing with them a little sooner (depending on the reach of the current weapon) so they can actually use their weapons more often. Let the zombies close with them. Probably don't want to change how they attack a hostile NPC and not sure if it will know the difference. Seems like it does. Also not sure it can tell if their target has fallen so they know to approach it fully and attack it while on the ground. That's probably the hardest part.
2) This is the bigger one, but probably harder to fix. BRAVERY. I set the option to Very Brave. And still they run away far too often. I have had a group of 5 survivors (plus myself). They are all armed with baseball bats and axes so they can hit multiple targets. We encounter 3 zombies and half of them run away. Now that 3 zombie encounter is 10-30 as they pull every group on the screen by running around like idiots. This needs a good bit of work before I trust them at to go on scavenging missions with me. Because of this, they are not very helpful and they eat WAY too much as far as I'm concerned. Their primary use is to pile corpses and to help harvest trees (cut and gather).

its a hard part to ballance. its not great i know. right now there is 2 reasons they will run. 1 is if they feel overwhelmed based on how many enemies there are, what the survivor is armed with. and how many allies near by. This is the part that bravery effects.

The other reason they will run is if more than 1 zombie is on the same square as them. The idea was for them to just back off and not get surrounded. But for that they dont need to run so far away just to get some distance between them and 2 or more zombies. It would probably help a fair bit if I make them only "run" a very short distance when that happens

You can keybind in numpad to tell them to stand ground to make them stay put and fight till they reach panic as well as follow. I've noticed the Vets are the braver bunch and would fight longer, Regular survivors are still prone to panic that's why they run like chickens after a few zeds come close. If you use ORGM mod better to have regular Scrub Survivors just use Supressed rifles/Berettas for support.
Yea I had my fair share of being left to die by the companions I gathered up... even my horribly annoying wife has left me to die when it came to no more than 5 vs 10 zombies... that could've been a winning fight for us thanks to the knockback and knockdown mechanics in the game, but NOOOO! Think I'll just turn off this mod till that gets fixed, cuz as far as these survivors go, they're worth nothing but wasted time, energy, and supplies.
