Area select - cannot confirm selection

I've watched the video/tutorial on selecting and confirming an area for base, etc.

When I try this, I cannot confirm an area that I have selected. It's basically stuck on "selection mode" and I can only either re-select an area, clear, or cancel.

any ideas what Im doing wrong?

Im suddenly getting this issue too. The mod worked fine on my old laptop, but the same save on my high end desktop has problems with this mod when it comes to setting your base.
