Am I to assume that the Waste Station pulls in Waste from buildings in its catchment area? How do you transport Waste from regular buildings not in that catchment area to the Waste Station?
I'm almost at 1900 and the cities stopped producing Waste and Mate.
I'm using both Europe and America bulding style. Does it affect the production OR?
Tks
Your MOD was design to work both Europe and America style and for all Eras, right?
And then I need to empty the Waste collection Facility to a Landfill.
How do I activate the Steel, Plastic, and Wood Powder production from the Landfill?
Does anyone know if you need more than one of the waste collection truck stations inside the city to provide full coverage (that is to say.. Does it cover the whole city or just its catchment area coverage?
1) Industrial and Commercial buildings generate waste. Residential buildings do not (they receive and send mail instead).
2) As @SoftwareSimian said, You can use any truck station to gather the waste from commercial and industrial buildings within that station's catchment area. In order to gather the waste, you need to connect that truck station to a Landfill. It seems to me that a Cargo Train Station will not use its catchment area to gather waste, although IF you connect a truck station to a Cargo Train Station, you can transfer waste to the station and transport it to a landfill via rail (just like any other cargo).
3) The 'Waste Collection Facility' is just a truck station with a modified look. You don't have to use that station, you can use any truck station. If you do place a 'Waste Collection Facility' then you can also use it as a normal truck station Inside your city.
3) When accepting trash, the Landfill can produce either Nothing (most of the time), or it can produce Steel, Wood Powder, Plastic (this is likely simulating recycling). I find that these recycling materials are only produced when there is a very large amount of material delivered to the Landfill. The only way that I can consistently produce Steel, Plastic, Wood Powder from the landfill is to use a train station connected directly and dump full train loads into the Landfill. As @SoftwareSimian also said .. you have to connect the Landfill to something that needs one of the recycled items (Steel, Wood Powder, Plastic) to create demand before any is produced.
4) With respect to the amount of Wood Powder, Steel, Plastic produced by the Landfill. I find the supply to be sporadic even when delivering train loads of waste to the Landfill. So, I would only use it as a supplemental supply for an existing demand chain that already works. If anyone is actually getting consistent production from the Landfill, let me know how you are doing it :)
Basically, how I do waste is ..
Set up at least one Landfill. Connect that landfill via train to my cargo system. Put truck stations inside the cities so that I can gather the waste I their catchment areas and connect those truck stations to a local cargo train station. I use enough trucks to deliver the waste to cargo train station. I also use enough train cars to deliver the waste to the landfill via may cargo system.
I have found this setup to be very convienient because this infrastructure can also be used to deliver any goods from the cargo system to the city using the same trucks you are gather trash with (in the other direction).
