Workaround for Prototype Armoury / LWOTC
I've been seeing a lot of people struggling to get anything besides conventional gear from loot boxes when using another mod that allows items to be built individualy, so here's a workaround for that:


WORKAROUND:

Keep at least 1 of the upgraded items in the xcom inventory (make sure that the item is NOT equiped by any soldier)

For example, if you want to get beam sniper rifles from the loot boxes, you need to have at least 1 beam sniper rifle unequiped. As long as it stays unequiped, the sniper rifles you'll get from the boxes will be of the beam variety. Repeat this for every item type (including armor).


EXPLANATION:

The way this mod works is that, whenever it tries to upgrade an item, it searches for an item of the same type of the highest tech in the xcom inventory. This was made with the vanilla xcom item upgrading in mind where you would always get an infinte amount of the upgraded item variant stored in the xcom inventory.

This doesn't seem to work... I've got 1 of every beam-tech tier in LWOTC Mod Jam but I just did a legendary reliquary box and selected Pistol and it gave me a conventional legendary pistol, instead of a Beam pistol.
Huh. Reloaded the save to try again with a Sniper Rifle and it did work with the Sniper. Though, the actual clip size, damage, etc. were not the same as LWOTC values (8-10 damage at "Beam" which is much lower.

I re-did a pistol box, and it (3-4 damage) actually was higher than Conventional, except unlike the Sniper Rifle it only upgraded to Magnetic, despite having a Beam pistol (and all other lwotc variants) in storage. Guess it's not picking it up.

Worked for Heavy Armor / W.A.R Suit too, and that one seemingly has the same stats as LWOTC's W.A.R Suit also... Hmm. I guess it works (except for the pistol giving me magnetic still??? Maybe some other weapon types are going to have this problem). But needs configs to make weapons match LWOTC. Or simply strip the upgrades and put them on real LWOTC weapons.

Only core problem (and this goes for B&T loot merge mod to make Grimy's work in mod-jam via making the mods drop as loot and do away with the lockboxes entirely) is that any armour mods attached to armour, gets deleted and vanish when unequipping the armour. Must manually remove the mod every time - this doesn't seem to apply for weapons though. I had a sidearm holster on a pistol for a long time.

I also had the problem with losing the Upgrades when I unequipped stuff, you can prevent that afaik by giving the items with Upgrades differing Names so they don´t get pulled into the common pool after unequipping.

This method works for LWOTC except that the mod seems to only define the tier 1 weapons and assumes mag and plasma upgrades for them based on the tier 1 weapons. So it doesn't work for laser and presumably coil. I can confirm that it definitely gives mag weapons from lootboxes but definitely does not give laser weapons from them. Haven't gotten to coil yet with this mod active.
