Wild
Once spawned, Wild Confus will also attempt to spawn a Strangler Tree. A max of 6 Confus will spawn per tree, and by default, there is only 1 tree in a 50000 radius. If a Confu spawns and is unable to assign or spawn a tree, it will be auto destroyed to prevent over-spawning. Trees will often have unique visuals relating to the specific Confu that spawns it. Trees will also spawn with a nest, with additional nests spawning over time. They may also have non fertilized eggs appear in them from time to time.

Confus will not attack unless provoked, but are territorial of their trees and nests, and will attack players who damage either of them. They will also turn hostile if players attempt to take eggs from the nest.

Confus will naturally fly in around their designated tree, occasionally perching on a branch. It's during this time they will seek out fertilized eggs dropped by players, which allows players to start taming them. Once it collects an egg and takes it to a nest to hatch, players can passively feed them. After the first feeding, if hatching stops due to the egg hatching, or the Confu being attacked etc, players will not need to wait for the Confu to re-perch in order for it to accept another egg. Wild Confus that are hatching eggs have reduced aggro, so they will not abandon hatching to aid allies etc. They will however stop if they are directly attacked or the tribe that is taming them attacks an ally, tree or nest.

Taming effectiveness is determined by egg size, with bigger being better, and food type, with Superior Kibble being the best, followed by all Plant Species seeds.


Tamed
Confus have a nest that can be crafted in their inventory. Nest feather style and colors are unique to the Confu that crafted it. These nests are where Confus will be able to hatch and store eggs.

Confus also have various options and functionality, accessible via the multiuse wheel/ radial menu. These options can also be accessed while shoulder mounted by holding in the "Poop" key.

Regular Egg Collection
Confu will find and collect all regular eggs within the surrounding area. Will attempt to get the closest first, as long as it can carry it.

Fertilized Egg Collection
Confu will find and collect all fertilized eggs within the surrounding area. Will attempt to get the closest first, as long as it can carry it. If hatching is unabled, will only collect one egg and take it to a nest for hatching.

Egg Location
While shoulder mounted, Confus will be able to highlight eggs in the surrounding area with a floating icon. This can be helpful for spotting regular eggs dropped in the wild or fertilized eggs in wild dino nests, as well reducing the time spent looking around your own base for any recently laid eggs.

Hatching
Confus are able to increase the hatching speed of fertilized eggs, as long as they are within the correct temperature range. Confus themselves provide insulation boosts to the egg. Speed bonus is tied to melee damage and biome type. Confus also consume more food while hatching eggs.

Claiming
Confus will claim babies on behalf of the current Imprinting Player, which is set via radial menu . On claiming a baby, the Confu will disable player following and wandering. It will claim newly hatched eggs, and by default, will also force pregnant creatures out of stasis to give birth in order to claim the baby. The tribe log also receives updates when a Confu claims a baby.

Caring
Through regurgitation, Confus themselves actually halt the food reduction rate on the babies they are caring for, and they themselves have increased consumption to compensate. This allows easier raising of more fragile creatures, but also allows babies to be fed without requiring a specific food type. By default, Confus will stop caring for babies once they hit Juvenile stage.

Imprinting
Will auto imprint babies in line with regular imprinting methods, timers and rates. For food imprints, by default, the Confu will require the appropriate food item in its inventory.

Command On Launch
While shoulder mounted, will highlight collectable eggs in your line of sight with an outline. If thrown, Confus will directly retrieve that egg.

Nest Storage
Allows the Confu to return to a nest to store eggs after completing tasks. Takes priority over Return To Survivor.

Return to Survivor
Allows the Confu to return and auto remount the player's shoulder after completing tasks. Whistling "Land Flyer" to call it to your shoulder outside of tasks.

Change Command Radius
Allows distance in which Confu will perform tasks to be changed. Will show orange visuals to inform players of the updated distance. Baby care is not affected by this, and will be shown in blue.

Biome Differences

Confu colors, feather patterns, and characteristics vary depending on the biome they are found in. Biome type can be viewed via the radial menu in addition to hatching and insulation boosts.

Confuciusornis
Redwood - Browns and Greens, with a Boosted Hatch Rate - Evolved to hatch eggs faster, due to the increased nesting within the Redwoods.
Snow - Blues and Whites, with Boosted Hypothermic Insulation - Evolved to allow hatching of eggs in colder climates.
Desert - Reds and Oranges, with Boosted Hyperthermic Insulation - Evolved to allow hatching of eggs in hotter climates.

Aberrant Confuciusornis
The Confus on Aberration can be any combination of the regular Confu, due to the radiation and mutation found there. They are also immune to radiation.

Corrupted Confuciusornis
The Corrupted Confus on Extinction can be any combination of the regular Confu, with mainly Pink, Purple and Black coloring. While they will still naturally move towards their Strangler Tree, they are not interested in eggs dropped by survivors and will attack them on sight.

X-Confuciusornis
Bog - Creams, Greens, Yellows and Teals, with a spotted pattern and Boosted Hatch Rate - Evolved to hatch eggs faster, due to the increased nesting within the Bog.
Arctic - Blues, Purples and Whites, with streaked patterns and Boosted Hypothermic Insulation - Evolved to allow hatching of eggs in colder climates.
Volcanic - Reds, Browns, Oranges and Blacks, with volcanic glow pattern and Boosted Hyperthermic Insulation - Evolved to allow hatching of eggs in hotter climates.

Unknown - Determined if Confu is a non specified color (usually through mutation or console command). If so, the first color will give the Redwood/ Bog boost, the second the Snow/ Arctic boost, and lastly the Desert/ Volcanic boost.

Breeding and mutations are possible and are encouraged to get the bestest birdy.

Confu has a base damage of 10, and a base health of 115
