Garry's Mod

Stop Motion Helper
GMod Broke This Addon!
I wish I was lying or joking, but I am not. This wonderful piece of media I finally figure out how to use, and then Garry's Mod decides that the best thing to do is remove the "Advanced Options" from the Options menu altogether (besides video settings). I don't know where or who to talk about this to, because now the latest tutorial of this software isn't even accurate anymore. I tried going into the dev console (like that would work) but I really need to know what to do now.
Sincerely, Agent K.

So from what I’ve gathered from this post and from the dev, you’re having trouble toggling the console? You can enable it by default by going to the Launch Options (in Steam Library on the left-hand sidebar, right-click “Garry’s Mod” -> select “Properties…”, and click “General” on the properties window that pops up), and typing the following into the input: -console

This opens the dev console by default everytime GMod opens. From there, you can enter the following command so you can toggle the console open with the press of a button:

“bind ` toggleconsole”
(enter the above exactly into the console without the quotes)

This binds your ` or ~ (tilde) key to opening the console. You should save this command into your `autoexec.cfg` (found in garrysmod/cfg) folder, so if your keybinds somehow get wiped for some reason, you can still open the console in the future

Let me know if that was the problem. If not, I’m still open to help

No, it's not that. I literally have video footage of what goes wrong.
Ok, that’s even better for me to find out what’s wrong

This is all to obtain the developer console, no? The key is bound, however. Normally, I’d hit shift+` to open the console as that usually works, and if that doesn’t work, I make sure the GMod window is focused by clicking any empty space on the main menu and then repeating the shift+` combo
I don’t think you need to explicitly enable the developer console as in the advanced options: enabling that option just automatically binds the ` or ~ button to enable the console

This is intentional on GMod’s part to remove the advanced options button from the keyboard settings. Not sure why they had to do it, but now that conflicts with the tutorial

It looks like the March 2024 update[gmod.facepunch.com] is what removed it, but accessing the developer console should work the same way since it’s always enabled: just press the button corresponding to toggling the developer console (add shift button if that’s still not working per Reply #5 of this thread)

I'm good now, thank you. I just originally thought it was a necessity to use the settings tab in the menu, like an "Off and On Again" to refresh the developer console before using the addon. So I think I just made myself look like an idiot for no reason... Wouldn't be the first time I panicked over something like that.
