"Discovered thirty-three years ago by the Terran exploration vessel, "Long Shot," the Hssiss Confederation quickly mobilized against the invading craft. Within a matter of hours, a small fleet of a dozen transport-class vessels and their charges exited the hyperspace fold and promptly targeted the "Long Shot." The Terran vessel, armed with only a small forward laser for micrometeor destruction, halted its foray into the unknown in a standstill called the "The Powderkeg" by the crew of the Terran ship. The Confederation's commanding ship pinged the communications device of the Terran vessel and a brief dialogue was held. Unfortunately, due to a lack of linguistics analysis, the conversation quickly moved to rudimentary drawings of the demands on both parties.

The encounter lasted three hours before the conclusion by the Terran vessel was that they should return by the direction they came and promptly returned to their shipyard in the Sol system. It was there that they were debriefed.

The crew aboard the Terran vessel described the Hssiss as a race of sentient, quadrupedal lizardfolk with scintilating patterns about their scaled caripaces. One member described them as "Dragons of yore." The predominant scale coloration was a deep sage with tendrils of black and a deep crimson pair of orbs for eyes. The one commanding the vessel had a distinctly different coloration: black with gold flecks throughout its scales. When asked to describe the patterns displayed on the scales of the creatures, nearly all members described it "as if there was a mirage around them.""
