Realistic Car Physics [B42]

Description
Realistic Car Physics:

Requires manual Install! See install section for details!

Now with manual shifting mode! And even more mod compatibility!

A Car Physics Overhaul Mod. Features include:

Accurately simulated 3-4-5 speed auto transmission with torque converter and alternate transmissions up to 8 speeds available via Project Summer Car as well as many other advanced car mechanic features!

Different levels of traction when going offroad, when it rains and when the ground is covered in snow!

Towing is now 100% easier: Someone left the brakes on the towed vehicle! Towed vehicles glide with ease behind you.. and crash into you if you stop too suddenly. Tire pressure also matters a lot for towing speed. Optionally require the key or vehicle be hot-wired to tow them easily!

Different vehicles have different RPM red lines and hit them in every gear before shifting if you floor it! Listen to your engine roar to life when you floor it!

Tires now visually lockup during hand braking and spin out if losing friction when accelerating. Tire friction based on tire type and condition limits accelerations. Enhanced tire skidding noises when burning out, turning hard and locking up the hand brake.

Transmission automatically up shifts to save fuel when you apply partial throttle and down shifts when you apply full throttle just like a real automatic transmission! Or manual transmission mode if you prefer to shift yourself!

Horsepower tweaks made by mods now properly affect acceleration.

Per car adjustments of horsepower and top speed in sandbox settings. Make OP vehicles balanced! make underpowered vehicles overpowered! whatever you wanna do!

Steering settings so the cars drive how you want them to!

Optional: Disables autostart when you press the gas pedal. Click the engine icon or press engine start (default N) instead!

Cruise Control has been improved and is now much easier and safer to use!

Gamepad support for analog throttle, brake and manual shifting!

Light install that replaces less files than Better Car Physics and is more likely to work next update. Not compatible with Better Car Physics.

Compatible with: KI5, Filibuster Rhymes and all other mods that add new cars to the game!
Not compatible with: Build 41 (Please stop asking), Better Car Physics.

Can be installed/removed at any time in a save game!

@KiwiCupraR That means you need to follow the manual install process again to update the java side part of it.

@Zozer MP isn't out yet for B42, but there is nothing stopping this mod from working in MP when it is out.

I love this kind of mods, but it will never work in multiplayer bc the manual changes of files

Its not caused by this mod. Its a vanilla feature. Complain to TIS or find a mod to disable it. But its not this mod causing it

I don't really like this visual effect; I once thought it was some kind of game bug related to screen refresh rate. If there could be other ways to indicate collisions instead of UI flickering, I think that would be better.
Black_moons  [author] Sep 20 @ 2:57am
@明明灭灭 That is a vanilla feature to show the vehicle sustained damage.

My other confusion is that in the vanilla game, when I crash into buildings or other objects, the dashboard UI flickers. I'm not sure whether this is an intentional game feature or a bug. Can this be fixed?

@明明灭灭 Its natural for cars to whip around in reverse but not forward, that is why all cars are front wheel steering: Rear wheel steering (going in reverse) is unstable and will cause the car to whip around violently with the slightest input.

I'll look into seeing if I can add some kinda 'soft' mode at low speed as iv noticed its a little hard to precisely position vehicles for hooking up for towing and parking in parking spots.

Hmm, after testing several times, I can confirm these vehicle-related traits do have noticeable effects. I observed that both reversing and forward acceleration involve a gradual speeding-up process, and this process is indeed accelerated or slowed down to some extent by these traits. However, I still feel the transition period from initial reverse speed to high speed is somewhat too fast. Perhaps more granular control could be considered?
Especially when changing direction while reversing—if you hold down the key continuously, you can make the vehicle spin rapidly in place like a whirlwind. In contrast, the steering speed when moving forward isn‘t as fast.
