"One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans" - Otto von Bismark, 1888

Ever noticed that despite being called "the powder keg of Europe", nothing really happens in the Balkans most games? Or that instead of a powerkeg you only get a sad Ottoman basketcase?

That's what lead led me to create Gates of the Bosphorus. This mod aims to add historical context and new mechanics to nations of the Balkans and the Ottoman Empire. This mod has an expensive scope covering the Ottoman and post-Ottoman states of the near East with an eventual goal of providing content from 1836 into the 1940s.

NOTE: This mod will not provide any DLC-exclusive content unless you own the respective DLC!

Compatibility
This mod is known to be compatible with:
  • Australia & New Zealand Flavor Pack
  • Better Politics Mod (Place GBBF after BPM)
  • Hail, Columbia!
  • Morgenrote: Dawn of Flavor
  • James's Korea Flavor Pack
  • Community Outfits Mod

Just a recommendation, but it'd be cool if you added a new ideology of the Byzantine Symphonia, which would approve of Monarchy, State Religion, Interventionism and Protectionism. If someone eventually does solidify their cultural identity as Rhomaic, then this could trigger an event that changes the core doctrines of the Landowners, adding Symphonia as core ideology

@Maximusvk
Thanks, bro ❤️

@Automne des Forêts
Yes, the Armenians will eventually come into scope. I left them out by mistake. Can't tell the story of Ottoman Anatolia without mentioning both the Kurds and Armenians.

With the Kurdish nation and people being a new feature for the 1.10 update, I was curious if you've considered adding in similar content for Armenia? Up until WWI most Armenians lived in the Ottoman Empire and were far more widespread across Anatolia and the Caucasus than they are today. I think they may have even out-populated the Kurds in the 19th Century.

Alright everyone, finally updated the description images and preview images. I'm still working on updating for 1.10, and I still don't have a proper ETA.

@Mr.Wolf
Yes, the overall scope can be broken down to:
- Greece (and Greeks at large)
- The Yugoslavs
- The Ottoman Empire
- Subjects of the Ottoman Empire (excluding Egypt)

Alex, great job as usual

Cool! Can't wait for Albania and Bosnia content! Are you planning on giving content to Croatia too? Paradox skipped that country too in the new DLC...
Alexedishi  [author] Oct 7 @ 5:46pm
@Mr.Wolf
Yeah. I actually released an initial batch of content for the Ottomans late last year. This is a more comprehensive wave of Ottoman mechanics.

I don't know if this is new or old, but one of the screenshots show new stuff for the Ottomans, is this the first phase of Turkish flavor that you said was coming in 2025?

Just as an FYI, today's update was just a technical one to change the thumbnail. I'm setting up a beta test on the Discord for anyone interest.
