Race to the Rim is a large project focused on bringing the universe of How to Train your Dragon closer to RimWorld. It’s an effect of countless hours and dedication, sponsored generously by kittentwitch, and inspired by her love for this franchise.

Adding 13 new dragons with special properties, kept in vanilla art style, with reasonable balancing and unique resources and gimmicks, this mod should help you immerse yourself in the fantasy setting of befriending dragons and using them to aid in your survival on the harsh planet. Alternatively, you can sharpen your swords and hunt the dragons down for glory!

This mod is far from being content-complete. We have many new additions planned and they will slowly be introduced, so keeping tabs on the changelog might be beneficial. From new factions and structures, to new dragon types and events around them, this mod will surely breathe some new life into your regular colony, and who knows, it might just make you watch the films one more time!

Q: How many dragons will be included?
A: Since the mod is paid-for monthly, we select dragons based on their popularity in the movies and TV series. The total is 31, but we don’t know if we will add all of them.

Q: Why are Light furies and Night furies combined into a single species?
A: Night Furies and Light Furies are canonically subspecies of each other. RimWorld doesn’t do subspecies, so we have decided to make it one species with different visual variations - as such allowing them to have offspring.

Q: All I can find are light furies/night lights, where are the night furies?
A: After generations of living on the rim, majority of furies you can see are light furies, with a number of hybrids as well. Night fury spawn chance is about 5%.

Q: I bought/found/bred dragon eggs and they exploded!
A: Yeah, they do that, brace yourself! If your colony survives the blast, you’ll have an awesome little buddy to train.

Q: My eggs hatched a while ago, but the dragons are still babies! How long do they take to grow up?
A: Dragons age incredibly, disproportionately slowly. This is partly because they’re dragons, and conceptually, long life is an integral aspect of who they are in many ways, but it has game play relevance as well. This is to emphasize taming instead of breeding - while both are definitely viable, taming is more of a short-term high-risk goal.

Q: Why are there no scales when I kill dragons? Why do I only get lizard skin?
A: First, because vanilla woolly animals don’t drop it on death, and for gameplay reasons (hunting is way too op, wool being exclusive to tamed animals is designed to counter that), we’re not changing that for dragons. Second: Adding unique leathers for each dragon would be bloat, so we decided to add just unique scales, not unique leathers.

Q: Is this mod save game compatible?
A: Yes, you can add it whenever you like. Removing it might cause some red errors but they shouldn’t persist.

There is a mod conflict with dubs bad hygiene, as the gronkle and hotburple at least dont drink water of their own, and thus die of dehydration. I tried to solve this but couldnt. its propably something to do with the component of eating wierd food.

Dragons don't work like hunting animals where you send them to attack and they go.

Hey, are dragon scales supposed to make armor and such made with them unfathomably heavy? Yeah, I get the weight idea of dragon scales, but a fury scale parka weighs almost 350kg. Any chance that this could be reasonably reduced so that things can actually be made with them that aren't impossible to use/transport? I'd like to outfit (Like Hiccup's fury scale leather armor!) and potentially take some in trade caravans. I'm using CE so obviously that influences things, but I was just curious if this was intended, or if maybe another mod is messing up the weights. Anyways, thanks for reviving this mod, I love it!

For some reason, my deadly nadder isnt shooting anything, even when I tell it to. It just kinda stands there, doing the shooting charge up, but not actually discharging anything. (havnt tried it with other dragons, so it might be with all of them, not just the nadder) Is there something im missing, or is this a mod problem?
