Note to New Players
This smaller version of Better Politics Mod is fully playable, but it is not the intended experience. If you haven't seen or played BPM before, we recommend you try out the full version first.

BPM Lite contains only the political rigidity and law enactment mechanics from the full mod. It is appropriate for people who would like a more vanilla-like experience, or who would like to use the new law enactment with other overhaul mods. However, it's missing the full version's much more detailed and dynamic account of Victorian era politics.

For more about BPM's design philosophy, read our design doc here[docs.google.com].

Law Enactment Guide
BPM and BPM Lite adds two gates to law enactment: Legislative Vote and Executive Approval.

Legislative approval needs to be above 50% (usually).
  • This can be increased by swaying IGs in support of a law. You can see the factors determining an IG's law support by hovering over their law support number.
  • In exchange for this extra gate, legislative approval also boosts your enactment chance, so a well-supported law will depend much less on RNG.
Sometimes, the Executive can veto your law enactment. The conditions depend on your laws:
  • In an autocracy, the ruler has absolute power to veto. Whether or not they will veto depends on the ruler's law support. You can find by hovering over the Ruler approve/veto label in the government screen.
  • In a non-autocratic monarchy or presidential republic, the ruler has the power to veto only if Legislative Vote < 66%.
  • In a parliamentary republic, the ruler cannot veto.
  • The ruler can be stubborn, so for absolute monarchies that is the most challenging gate to pass. Your ruler can be swayed by factors like high legislative approval, powerful movements, revolutions, old/young age, personality traits, and more.

I made a version with just the enactment overhaul, working with 1.9 if anyone's interested:

Would love to see an even lighter version of BPM with just the laws and institutional ministry offices and only other basic changes kept, with big things like political rigidity/repeatable laws/extra journal entries removed.
