Introduction
This mod was created to enrich the nobility experience in Dwarf Fortress. With a broad range of features related to noble positions, this mod aims to introduce a deeper, more immersive political system. What’s more, by assigning some generic roles, you may use it to assign items to specific dwarfs. Feel encouraged to also rename titles to fit your world.

Design Decisions
  • Due to modding limitations, some roles and responsibilities are simplified, approximated, or just description-based without a real impact on game mechanics.
  • Keeping some roles with no responsibilities and no demands allows their use as a way to assign items to specific dwarfs.
  • Some roles are intentionally left vague to allow for customization and interpretation by the player.
  • To work around game limitations, similar positions with fixed numbers were added, raising to the main one later.
  • To avoid situations where a knight (low tier) stops being a knight (low tier) and becomes a knight (higher tier), naming conventions like (gems, metals, ore, stones, wood, drinks) are used to match both the position and dwarven culture.

Other

Planned Features
Nothing at the moment. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Issues
  • No known issues except for the game modding engine limitations.
  • Please be aware that this mod will increase the number of events created in world history by assigning and changing nobility positions.
  • Issue with military positions (fix attempted in 1.05).
If you encounter any other issues, please let me know.

Using in Other Mods
Please feel encouraged to use this resource as a dependency in your mod. If you need just a subset of features and others are misaligned with your vision, please contact me - it is likely there will be no problem on my side to create a resource-only mod (or mods) with the content you require.

Updates
  • 1.04 - Initial release
    ...
  • 1.12 - MAX_SITE_POP_NUMBER 250
  • 1.13 - Updated SUCCESSION to avoid higher positions being 'promoted' to lower ones (to prevent inheritance loops) (thx Business Cat)
  • 1.14...1.16 - Attempt to fix the issue with squads creation being blocked. Removed EQUIPMENT_MANIFESTS from all positions, LAW_ENFORCEMENT from knights.

If you used this mod and had some interesting story to share, please write a comment.

niemst, I was loving the mod so far, but have an issue now. My Baron somehow ended up as Guild Master, and the Baron role is now gone.

Seems auto assignation of roles from the mod also auto removes Vanilla nobility roles. Every term. Including military roles, and as Nobility, then gets hung up, unable to lead squads. Thought it may be compatibility with other extended role mods, yet occurs in new world with only the Nobility roles loaded. Eventually it released, but not exclusively tied to the role mentioned by growling whispers.

This mod has ruined my work orders. The guild master role overwrites the manager role, but does nothing. Also the knight roles are changed every season.

unfortunately (currently) the modding system do not support that. All I can assign is a responsibilities (and some of them are related to skills)

I love your mods but this one is pretty amazing. 10/10 for sure. The descriptions are great, but I would really love to see them tie to a specific skill. Like which bard noble is dedicated to just singer/musician. Maybe a noble linked to notable kill number?

It looks like it is all the social skills or nothing when I try to see who fits a role. This works great if I have dwarf who I want to give a title, but this could be a great mod to see who is remarkable in some aspect! Who is my strongest dwarf? Who is my most best diplomat, philosopher, or scientist? This is the best mod on the workshop, but you might have an opportunity to make it game changing!

Check out the groupings on the "skill" page of the DF wiki for inspiration. I am excited to see what else you do!

I found it! It took me a while, but I discovered the answer to the problem I reported back in December. As soon as you assign a Vicar General (or someone gets promoted to it), you can create new squads again! I hope this helps others with the same issue, because this is a great mod.

very neat mod, but when my dwarfs inherit the position of alderman or whatever else it strips them of their position as manager/broker/bookkeeper/etc and its tedious to reassign everything

can you please make wallpaper version of the cover art for alot of your mods? i want these as wallpapers!

A few typos and missing punctuation in the Nobles descriptions.

I'm experiencing the nobles being elected over and over issue. It also overrides barony elevations.

Overall a very cool mod and excited to see continued development
