Castle Walls Expanded

Description
Adds configurable features, add-ons, tweaks and fixes to the great [JDS] Castle Walls mod.

FEATURES:
  • Adds many new walls including diagonal ones!
  • Adds a dedicated "Castle" architect tab! (w/ Architect Icons support)
  • Customizable wall material cost!
  • Customizable defense tower refuel cost! (including ability to disable refueling entirely)
  • Optional defense tower electricity cost! (as potential replacement for refueling)
  • Optional powered gates! (remote locking mechanic [1.2-1.4] and quicker opening speed)
  • Customizable gate opening speed!
  • Optional wall lighting!
  • Optional maintenance requirement!
  • Fixed naming inconsistencies!
  • Fixed glitchy shadows!
  • More coming...?

IMPORTANT:
  • Only requires Castle Walls Reborn for 1.6. (Installation guide for versions below 1.6 here!)

  • Almost no settings are turned on by default, so make sure to enable them yourself!
  • Restart required after changing settings.

  • Can be added mid-game.
  • Can be removed mid-game after you remove all expanded content.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • The default slider values are well balanced in my opinion, if you don't know what value to set them to, don't touch them.

  • Playing a medieval tech game? Remove the maintenance requirement!
  • Playing a modern tech game? Enable the electricity requirements!

  • The base mod has lots of lighting issues: the castle walls create no shadows unlike normal walls and let all light pass through. This is because they are technically buildings and not walls. These issues are unfixable, but we can hide them! By turning on all settings for added wall lighting, the lack of shadows starts making more sense, and any light passing through just looks like wall lighting instead! Besides, it also just looks cool.

  • When enabling the experimental diagonal walls option, avoid making continuous diagonal walls; it will look bad. Diagonal walls are quite nice when used sparingly.

I checked on 1.5 and all the mentioned settings work on my end. If you want you can you send your Player.log.

I'm playing on 1.5, the lower cost multiplier worked, but the faster gate speed opening and no refill / maintainance for defense towers didnt work even after multiple restarts and new colony test, not sure why :/

Update 15 June 2025:
- Updated to RimWorld 1.6.
- Removed dependency on XML Extensions for the 1.6 build.
- Added dedicated mod icon for 1.5 and 1.6 builds.

Settings will have to be re-set when updating to 1.6, due to the removal of the XML Extensions dependency.

Managed to solve the crashing issue and can play with this mod now as well, so XML extensions should be working fine

For anyone having their game unable to start, the dependency XML extensions mod is currently broken.

I cannot replicate a crash using the following modlist:

Harmony
Core
Ideology
Biotech
Castle Walls Reborn
XML Extensions
Castle Walls Expanded

I also don't think your crash is a bad synergy between mods, as that doesn't tend to crash games in my experience. When dealing with a massive mod list, depending on how massive, it could be the case that your PC simply can't handle all those mods, which has nothing to do with yesterday's patch, despite coincidentally happening on the same day as your crash.

Today's update causes my game to crash on startup (Somewhere near the end of the loading process). Ran fine yesterday.

I have a massive mod list though so it's probably some bad synergy, but maybe others have the same issue.
