XCOM: Enemy Within Voices

Description
--->THIS MOD REQUIRES ALTERNATIVE MOD LAUNCHER FOR WOTC USERS<---[github.com]

TL:DR
This mod adds my own versions of the MEC voices and Blue Shirt voices from XCOM: Enemy Within.

Overview
  • The MEC voices have just over 500 lines except for MEC Male 1 who has about 45 less. Watch the rant video for details on that.
  • Blue Shirt voices have 269 lines each.
  • Individually adjustable volume for each voice via a config file
  • Cooked
  • Voice Patcher support, download it >here<
  • Works with both base-game and WotC, Voice Patcher only supports WotC
  • Not affected by attitudes
  • MEC voices available for normal soldiers, faction classes, and SPARKs
  • MEC voices will only randomly appear on SPARKs
  • Blue Shirt voices available for normal soldiers
  • Blue Shirt voices can randomly appear on normal soldiers

Detailed Explanation
Decided to rebrand the old 'MEC English Voices Redux' mod this was before into a more all-encompasing project that covers anything specific to EW. All content from the original MEC Voices mod is still included in this mod, and the internal names for everything is the same, so the transition should be seamless.

For all of the voices, manually sifted through all of their lines and resorted any that may be applicable to other contextually fitting events. Repeating that in English, I moved lines around so that dialogue plays more often.
The MEC voices also use some originaly unused dialogue from EW. As far as I'm aware, this is the first time any of it can be heard in a gameplay setting.

You can choose to only use the MEC voices on SPARKs, but just be aware that they have exclusive dialogue for many soldier-specific actions like:
  • Grappling Hook
  • Run & Gun
  • Serial/Reaper
  • Nearly every event that involves firing a weapon (Rupture, Rapid Fire, Lightning Hands, etc.)
  • Melee Attacks (Voice Patcher Only)
  • Icarus Jetpack (Voice Patcher Only)
  • Shield Wall (Voice Patcher Only)
  • Others I may be forgetting

All of the voices here are also missing dialogue for specific status effects, those being:
  • Burning from Acid
  • Burning from Fire
  • Poisoned
  • Disoriented
  • Mind Controlled
For many abilities, the voices also only use generic 'Affirmative' lines if no other pool of lines were applicable.

Q&A
What about the normal soldiers voices from Enemy Unknown??
XCOM: Enemy Unknown Soldier Voices.

And the voices from the original Long War mod?
Long War Voices Complete.

What about the voices for Zhang, Annette, and Van Doorn?
XCOM Legacy Voices Redux.

How do I make a voicepack?
You can try >this guide<.

This game is 8 years old, why are you still playing it?
I ask myself that question every day, and have come to the simple conclusion that this game is eternal.

Credits

Cannot find who voiced the MECs or Blue Shirts. Let me know if you know.

"This game is 8 years old, why are you still playing it?"

Answer: "Because the game is amazing and has no limit in it's replayability because of modders like you."

It´s OK. Thanks for your response. I have just disabled the voices for regular soldiers in your ini. I hope it will fix this issue.

@p6kocka When you say resistance soldiers, I assume you're talking about the AI allies in retaliation missions. The way I tried to prevent random soldiers from getting the voices is by setting the language of the voice template in the .ini to 'none'. This works well enough for normal soldiers because the game tries to match the randomly assigned voice language to the soldiers nationality, and that field is essentially what determines the nationality of the voice. The only reason I can think of for why resistance soldiers are an exception is that maybe the game doesn't actually assign them a nationality, so it just picks a voice completely at random from all available options. If that's the case, there's not much I think I can do about it.

The voices randomly appear on resistance soldiers in LWOTC which is odd.

what mod are you using on the demonstration video ? the one that make units shoot each other ?

@Fedora The Explorer The Russian MECs (and the rest of the Russian voices) have already been done better >here< . As for the rest, considering I don't speak French, Spanish, Italian, German, or Polish, the most I could probably do is just cook the ones from the original mod without any further adjustments. I don't know if this game has much of a player base in those language groups, so most people might not even care, but I care. I'll consider the idea.

Fantastic! Any plans on doing other MEC languages?
