NKP No. 759 Berkshire Steam Locomotive

Description
Lima 2-8-4 Berkshire No. 759

Nickel Plate Road 759 is a class "S-2" 2-8-4 "Berkshire" type steam locomotive built in 1944 by the Lima Locomotive Works for the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad, commonly referred to as the "Nickel Plate Road". Built as a fast freight locomotive, No. 759 served the Nickel Plate until being retired in 1959 and placed into storage. In 1965, No. 759 was purchased for display. It was later restored to operating condition in 1967 and pulled numerous excursion trips. In 1977, the locomotive was retired again and placed on static display. Today, Nickel Plate Road No. 759 can be seen at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Pennsylvania. Its sibling engine NKP No. 765 continues to operate today.

Once again Gerunimo helped a lot with this project. He completely remade the cab and changed how the locomotive worked to make it much more realistic. Big thanks to him, and make sure to check out his workshop as well!

This locomotive is compatible with all WABSIM equipped rolling stock, a collection of which can be found here. It's also the first locomotive built with the brand-new Steam Wabsim (coming soon), a modification of Wabsim meant to accurately simulate steam locomotives.

Operating Instructions
Startup
-Open the front and back dampers
-Open the firebox door with the fire door locking lever using the invisible button above and to the right of the fire doors. This locks the doors open (and doesn't need steam pressure to function, like the foot pedal). Then press the arrow button inside the doors to light the fire
-Turn on the dynamo, steam turret, and air compressor keys
-Once steam pressure reaches >30psi you can close the locking lever and use the foot pedal to open the fire doors when needed
-At >50psi the blower will be functional, so turn on the blower key. The blower forces air into the firebox when not moving, but requires steam to do so. Above 4mph there is enough draft that the blower is no longer needed.

Getting moving
-Before moving, make sure you close one of the dampers. When moving forwards only the rear damper should be open, and vise versa for reverse. Opening both dampers will allow too much air into the fire when moving and blow the fire out.
-In the engineer's seat, release the automatic and independent brakes. The throttle, brakes, and a few other controls use invisible buttons so they may be hard to find at first.
-Open the cylinder c0cks key near the floor
-Set the power reverser to 100% (or -100% for reverse). The power reverser has 4 "notches" decreasing incrementally from 100% to 10%. The closer to 10% the power reverser is, the faster the train can go but the less steam is allowed into the pistons. 10% to -10% is neutral and allows no steam.
-Throttle up! The throttle is near your head on the left side, and also uses invisible buttons. The first time you throttle up it may take a few seconds for the engine to move as steam propagates through the pipes. Turn off the cylinder c0cks after a few seconds of moving, as well as the blower.

Adding water
There are two ways to add water to the boiler
-The non-lifting injector (engineer's side) uses steam taken directly from the boiler, meaning it can inject water into the boiler even if the throttle is closed. This is useful if you are stopped.
-The feedwater pump valve (fireman's side) uses exhaust steam from the pistons, and thus can only be used when the engine is moving with the throttle open. This wastes less steam but is slower than the non-lifting injector.
-Water level can be checked using the two sightglasses

Tips and tricks
-Don't move forwards with the fire door locking lever open for a lengthy amount of time, or else you will blow the fire out. However it is fine to do this in reverse.
-The contents of the tender (water and coal level) can be checked by looking at a hidden logic block on the inset above the coal bunker.
-Steam heat for compatible passenger cars can be activated by turning on the respective key on the left of the boiler, behind the dynamo controls.
-Automatic brakes can only be released fully when steam pressure is >90psi
-The engineer and fireman both have whistles on invisible buttons above their seats
-If you have trouble getting out of the engineer's seat just hop into the fireman's seat

STATS Cost: $196,479 Mass: 13,744 Top Speed: 80mph

It is not necessary but the train works best when vehicle damage is off and physics are set to at least medium.

Make sure physics simulation is set to high, but this locomotive was broken by the gasses update and no longer functions properly anyways
