Ship Names for Japan

Description
I have made this mod because the ship name in Vanilla are... lacking. So to improve the situation this mod was created! Many thanks to Kirino for providing a list of geographical features of Japan!

Changes:
  • Added Weather names (First Class Destroyers)
  • Added Plant names (Second Class Destroyers)
  • Added Island names (Kaibokan/Escorts)
  • Added River names (Light Cruisers)
  • Added Mountain names (Heavy/ Battle Cruisers)
  • Added Underwater names (Minelayers)
  • Added Provinces names (Battleships)
  • Added -ryu names (Carriers, Dragon)
  • Added -ho names (Carriers, Phoenix)
  • Added -kaku names (Carriers, Crane)
  • Added -yo names (Carriers, Hawk)
  • Added -ro names (Carriers, Heron)
  • Added I-000 names (First Class Submarines)
  • Added Ro-000 names (Second Class Submarines)
  • Added Ha-000 names (Third Class Submarines)
  • Added xxx Maru names (Merchant Vessels)
  • Added Shrine names (Training Cruisers)

I know that Minelayers in the IJN were named after Islands/used other names, but I thought that I would give them more unique names. Also, please be aware that I don't speak Japanese, so some names may be wrong. I tried to give the names a japanese feeling.

I am not good at English, so please excuse the machine translation.
Aircraft carriers are divided into -ryu, -ho, -kaku, -yo, and -ro, but there was a ship called "Ryujo" (龍驤), so it does not always have a dragon, phoenix, crane, or hawk behind it. In addition, according to the naming regulations of the Imperial Japanese Navy, aircraft carriers were named after flying auspicious animals (phoenix, dragon, crane, and hawk) that appeared in mythology and other myths, so I feel that they can be grouped together as an aircraft carrier.

@Kirino that would be nice, right now i used wikipedia lists, so that data would be very helpful. I have sent you a friendship invite. And thank you for your support!

Thanks for doing this; I think it looks great so far!

About a year ago, I took the most recent gazetteer published by Japan's Geospatial Information Authority (basically a dictionary of Japanese geographic locations) and used Excel to format the data for inclusion into a HOI4 name list.

It contains about 3400 unique names, separated into a few categories: mountains/hills, lakes, rivers, cities/towns, neighborhoods, islands, capes, mountain passes, seas, undersea locations, and prominent natural features.

Some of the names are too long, too silly (most place names in Hokkaido are transliterated from the Ainu language, which sounds adorable) or anachronistic (like wards of Tokyo that definitely didn't exist until after WW2). However, it was still preferable to my 75th cruiser rolling off the production lines, proudly sporting the name "Keijun'yokan 52-go".

I'd be happy to upload it somewhere or email it to you, if it could help you expand your lists.

Cheers!
