Dux Bellorum: Roman Reskin Overhaul

Description

This is a complete reskin overhaul of the Roman factions. This includes all land units, all naval units, all officers, all standard bearers, all generals, all faction leaders, and all unit cards. I have done this mod in accordance to my taste and wanted to share it woth everyone else.

My mod is made with the following philosophy:

- Variety; a lot of effort has went in to making units, officers, and generals be as a varied as possible. This will give a feeling of uniqueness and avoid the situation of fielding clones. Ancient armies didn't really have standard issued uniforms in the same colored jumpsuits, this mod will reflect on that. Every unit has now unique tunics, colors, armor, shields, and helmets.

- Color: Ancient cultures and people loved color and this mod adds a lot of that. Tunics will now have a variety of realistic colors. The poorer units will have tunics in light, cheaper colors (like white and brown), and elite units will have more expensive colors (like purple)

- Realism/historicity: I have tried to consult historical sources when doing the models. Although they are not perfectly historical, as far as I know, they still have a realistic and historical feel to them.

- Mod/save compatibility: This mod is a "vanilla" reskin of only the Roman factions and nothing else. This makes it compatible with a lot of other mods. For example, this mod is compatible with all mods that change campaign, other facton reskins, UI, etc. It's perfect for those of you who mix and match a lot of different mods together. This mod will not mess up other aspects of the game or conflict with the mods you enjoy.

- Everything included: Everything should be in this mod, nothing is left out and you don't need any other mod for the Romans. All land units are reskined, all naval units, generals, etc.

Major Update I
This mod is now a threeparter since the last update contained su much material that it couldn't be stored on one article.

I have included resources from Celticus and Avetis Last Roman HD mod. I have used in part Avetis models from his nomad reskin. This includes, shields, helmets, tunics, and much more. I have also had the oportunity to borrow some of wibblywobblywonders work from Age of Justinian. Some textures and models I have created myself. WRE's faction leader has Alaric's iron musculata.

Major Update II
With the second major update a whole new focus has been given to historical accuracy. All shields have been revamped to fit with the notitia dignitatum. Some shields are from the 3rd and 4th century but most units have been given completely historically accurate shields. Also armour has been changed to fit more with 5th century (and I have cleaned ut most things from the 6th century). The late Roman shield designs that are made by me is free to use for anyone that wish it.

Major Update III
A whole new update with massive changes in terms of aestetics, historicity and much more. With this update, I hope that this will be the most historical vanilla reskin for Attila. All critiques and feedback in terms of historicity will be very welcomed. This new update is very large in terms of file size, but as I update my other mods they will be tied to Dux Bellorum. Hence, all data and models will be stored in one location and save file size.

Major Update IV
Updated visuals, graphics and models. Complete HD overhaul. Now with new cards for leaders, generals and units.

Special Thanks
I want to aim a special thanks to the teams behind Anno Domini, Rome HD, 457 AD: Last years of the Western Roman Empire, Burning Empires, and Age of Justinian. Your work has been absolutely critical in allowing me to make this mod as historical as possible. I'm very grateful for your contributions, dedication, and generosity.

I also want to thank the people on the Discord server TW Modder's Agora. Especially Gyrosmeister, Ulther, Phaezer have been exceptionally helpful and patient, without your help and resorces this wouldnt have been possible.

Sarcasm, sorry for belated reply. This issue does not hjappen from my end

Man, I need a load order for all these amazing reskin overhauls
Sarcasm Aug 6 @ 9:02am
Yeah I'm not sure what's happening with me, but I redownoaded all 4 parts several times now and I still have 1. Gray shields on several infantry units (Cornuti and Legio I can remember offhand) and 2. Catafractarii with invisible torsos on many models.

Sarcasm: will look into this after I get home. Try a clean reinstall.

Pinkhead Larry: no, but Im thinking about doing some kind of overhaul mod, perhaps an age of Arthur overhaul for the aoc campaign, or an 7th century overhaul for main campaign and build something similar to what the Beginning of an End team wanted to build

Think you'll ever do a reskin for fall of the eagles mod using these textures?
Sarcasm Aug 5 @ 3:44pm
I'm only using your reskin mods, and I did move this to the top of the load order, but it happens even when the 4 Dux Bellorum mods are my only loaded mods. I also noticed the Catafractarii models have invisible torsos. I'll try getting an actual mod manager instead of the launcher.

Stpkohn: got a server for my mod age of Arthur. Thinking about posting updates for my other mods there so you can join here if you want https://discord.gg/nK6Ev8zT

Sarcasm:
Got all parts and do you use any other mods? If you got other mods that affect reskin you need to keep Dux at the top of the load order
Sarcasm Aug 4 @ 1:17pm
Many of the infantry units don't have shield textures, their shields are beaten-on gray fields, even though their unit card certainly shows a shield texture. I've tried different load orders but Cornuti Seniores and a few other units still have gray shields. Is this intended?
stpkohn Aug 3 @ 6:07pm
sounds good! Is there a discord to follow your work?
Voodoo  [author] Aug 3 @ 1:25pm
Stpkohn: sure, but in iconohraphy we see that most Roman soldiers were clean shaven. Will fix cohors once I update Dux, will be soon!
