Advanced Brewing

(Mostly) Vanilla Farming
20 items
Description
I recommend instead using Advanced Agriculture.
Advanced Agriculture combines the effects of most of my previous farming mods, making installation much easier. It also fixes several bugs relating to plants and their processing present in vanilla Dwarf Fortress.

This mod allows you to select exactly which plant(s) to brew, and to make larger batches of drink at a time. This saves barrels and stockpile space while also making it easier to provide for your citizens' preferences. There are three brewing sizes available: single batches which produce exactly 5 drinks per barrel (useful for booze cooking), vanilla batches which produce a random amount between 5 and 25 drinks per barrel (depends on the stack size of the plant or growth collected), and full barrels which produce 100 drinks in every barrel.

This mod should be compatible with other mods, though it must be placed after any mods that cut the vanilla entities. If you have modded civilizations, you can copy the permitted reactions in the entity file to grant access to these recipes to modded entities.

If using this mod instead of Advanced Agriculture, I recommend installing Remove Royal Jelly, otherwise beekeeping is very tedious. I also recommend Invisible Jugs Fix so that jugs of honey aren't invisible.

The compatibility patch adds the recipes from this mod to most of the civilizations available on the Steam workshop.

The mod includes a Brew_All.json file in the DFHack Workorders folder. Moving this file to the dfhack-config/orders directory in your Dwarf Fortress installation will allow you to automate the production of all drinks. The workorders are setup to check for an available empty barrel, six brewable plants or fruits, and whether a barrel of the specific drink already exists. If your stock of that drink is empty, and the materials are available, a job is created at a still to replenish that drink.

Remove Plant Alignment allows sliver barb and sun berry to be obtained from any savage area. When combined with Enhanced Trading, elves from savage areas can bring these plants to you!

To be able to cook with mead, use Cookable Mead.

If the order is being sent but cancelling, that means the still it is being assigned to can't access the whip vine. If the work order was created as a general work order (in the work orders menu) and just changed to be available to two workshops, the order is probably being assigned to a still that is outside the whipvine stockpile link.

Additionally: The conditions I'm using are:
Amount of Whip Wine is less than 50.
Amount of unrotten Whip Vines is more than 39.
Amount of empty food storage items is more than 2.
Restricted to two stills (Which are both linked to appropriate stockpiles).
Make two barrels.

My other liquor orders (Sunshine,Dwarven Beer,Rum,and Wine,Potato Wine) are using nearly identical conditions, with the only changes being the sought after ingredients. Additionally, the order's conditions menu says that all of its conditions are met.

Bizarre issue. Despite having fifty three fresh whip vines in a whip vine stockpile, barrelled of course, which my whip vine dedicated stills are linked to alongside a stockpile containing barrels and pots, and literally no other job in the fortress looking for whip vines,my work order for making barrels of whip wine keeps cancelling because it can't see them in the linked stockpile.

The "Brew barrel of X" orders for literally everything else I tried never ran into this issue. What's going on?

One unit of plants or fruits always produces five drinks, so it's 20 plants for the 100 drink reactions. With an average harvest of three plants per crop plot, seven crop plots will usually produce a barrel every harvest. Ten crop plots may be necessary when the farmers are still low level.

I will attempt that. Or I will try to drastically increase my farming operation lol.

I added the reactions for "brew some drinks" which will just use whatever stack of plants is brought and make that amount of drink. It'll be random between 5 and 25, since 5 is the largest stack of plants able to be obtained from farming or gathering. If you've updated an existing world from a previous version of the mod, I'd recommend reloading the save and not updating the mod. I tried to mark this new 2.0 version as not compatible with existing saves, but Dwarf Fortress ignores the mod version compatibility still.

Love this mod. But now that it requires 20 of an item to make a full barrel, its way too much. Is there a way to brew as big a barrel as we can? Or otherwise combine stacks of fruit? If not can you please re enable smaller barrels?

Yeah, the plants growths not showing in work orders is a bug in Dwarf Fortress itself.

I added royal jelly to the mead recipe because otherwise jelly takes up all of the jugs and becomes an annoyance trying to empty them for honey. Since jelly is useless otherwise, this seemed like the best way to handle that headache. I wanted this mod to be compatible with vanilla and as many other mods as possible, so removing the royal jelly from honey bees wasn't something I was willing to do here. I may eventually upload a companion mod for this one that replaces the mead recipe with a normal one for just honey, but also removes royal jelly from the game.
