Description

Stella Elves are a subspecies of elves whose fanatical desire to gain the blessings of the stars has driven them to desecrate the nature their woodland cousins so dearly love. Stella dig deep within the earth for the rarest of gemstones, carving them into lenses, and hoping a constellation's blessing will be their reward.

Stella play similarly to dwarves, requiring all the same nessecities and possessing a similar noble structure. They lack the knowledge to smelt steel but they have access to two new metals, blessings, and a few other toys. Access to most of these things requires them to channel the power of the stars through gemstones lenses.

CRAFTSMAN: LENSES
Lenses are the medium through which Stella channel stellar essence. They're used in a number of ways and all instances where they're needed the game will tell you a 'lens' is needed, unfortunately leaving out the specific type required.

CLOUDY LENS
A cloudy lens is a lens that has either lost its luster through use or one crafted out of glass. Cloudy lenses can only be used to channel stellar essence from notes and they often break when doing so.

GEMSTONE LENS
A gemstone lens is a lens created out of gemstones mined from the earth. It does not count glass. They are needed for most reactions and can be used to channel stellar essence from notes or charts, although they will become cloudy after doing so.

STELLAR LENS
A lens crafted out of stellate and stellar diamonds. It can be used to channel stellar essence, breaking only rarely, and is required to create astral diamonds.

ASTRAL LENS
A lens crafted out of astralite and astral diamonds. It will never break while channelling stellar essence, although it can be used so search specifically for blessings which may cause it to break.

OBSERVATORY: STELLAR NOTES
Written on paper, a stellar note is a tiny fraction of a Stella's knowledge. These notes are needed to channel stellar essence.

OBSERVATORY: STELLAR CHART
Written on a scroll, a stellar chart is a small fraction of a Stella's knowledge. These charts are needed to channel stellar essence and gain constellation's blessings.

OBSERVATORY: ESSENCE
A liquid resource thats gained from channeling using notes or charts. Stellar essence can only be stored in ceramic jugs as it reacts poorly with other materials.

OBSERVATORY: INFUSING
The observatory allows you to infuse essence into other materials to make new ones. This process requires a lens depending on the resulting material.

STELLAR DIAMOND
Requires a raw high value gemstone, stellar essence, and a gemstone lens. Stellar diamonds are used primarily to create stellate, a new metal, but can also be used to make lenses or simply cut as a valuable gem.

ASTRAL DIAMOND
Requires the highest value gemstone, stellar essence, and a stellar lens. Astral diamonds are used primarily to create astralite, a new metal, but can also be used to make lenses or simply cut as a valuable gem.

STELLAR GLAZE
Requires a gemstone lens. Turns rock blocks and stellar essence into a glaze that can used to glaze ceramics.

SMELTER: STELLATE
No lens required. A magical metal bar created by merging stellar diamonds, silver, and stellar essence together. It's generally slightly weaker than steel in all respects, although its more dense.

SMELTER: ASTRALITE
No lens required. A magical metal bar created by merging astral diamonds, platinum, and stellar essence together. It's most similar to a divine metal, although its very dense causing it to be very heavy. It's good for most things as long as you don't mind the weight.

KITCHEN: INFUSE
Similar to the observatory, Stella can infuse food at the kitchen with stellar essence using a lens.

STELLAR FRUIT
Requires a gemstone lens. Anyone who eats a stellar fruit (or anything cooked with it) will be happier and move slightly faster for a period of time.

STELLAR BLESSING FRUIT
Requires a stellar lens. Anyone who eats a stellar blessing fruit (or anything cooked with it) has a very small chance to gain a blessing.

STELLAR HEALING FRUIT
Requires an astral lens and consumes an astral diamond. Anyone who eats a stellar healing fruit will regrow missing limbs and heal physical ailments.

SPECIFIC BLESSING FRUIT
Requires an astral lens and consumes an astral diamond. These fruits will always give the blessing related to the fruit to the person (or people) who eat it.

METALSMITH: SWORDSTAFF
An ancestral weapon of the Stella, this half-sword-half-staff weapon is a mix of a pike and a two-handed sword. They can be made of any material and use the sword skill.

METALSMITH: STELLA FISTS
An ancient weapon made for bashing skulls, the stella fists are a pair of large gauntlets that must be crafted from either of the two new metals alongside their matching gemstones. The weapon is used as a pair (both count as a single weapon, so no need to make two) and it uses the hammer skill.

Blessings are granted to Stella randomly through channeling or consuming blessing-related fruit (which are also created through channeling). Each Stella can only have a single blessing - once they have one they're unable to gain any more. Upon gaining a blessing, a Stella will gain a shroud related to their blessing and their hair will turn silver.

There are currently 7 different blessings that related to different dwarf fortess religious spheres. Each one has its own special effects. I made an effort to make them not completely overpowered and tried to keep collateral damage to a minimum where possible.

SUN
Sun-blessed Stella become immune to extreme heat up to and including dragonfire. They also gain the ability to emit bursts of solar light that disorient and blind enemies.

MOON
Moon-blessed Stella no longer need to sleep and have increased skill gain rates. They also gain the ability to emit a cloud of lunar dust that can causes drowsiness in nearby creatures, excluding themselves and other moon-blessed Stella.

FIRE
Fire-blessed Stella gain resistance to basic heat, but not dragonfire (despite their shroud being a dragon in shape). They gain the ability to shoot a jet of stellar flame which, while slightly hot, will not ignite the entire map. It mostly just causes pain. Additinally, their shroud can make attacks with its claws or mouth, injecting stellar flame directly into their targets when hitting with the latter.

EARTH
Earth-blessed Stella gain slight physical resistance in the form of toughened skin. Their shroud can also punch things and throw magical rocks at enemies.

FREEDOM
Freedom-blessed Stella gain immunity webs, paralysis, and dizziness as well as base-line increased movement speed. Their shroud is capable of attacking with its claws and mouth and they can further boost their speed for short periods.

NATURE
Nature-blessed Stella become immune to webs and stop trampling the ground they tread on. Their shroud can be used to headbutt enemies and they gain the ability to summon a stellar wolf to aid them in combat.

DEATH
Death-blessed Stella no longer need to breathe and feel no pain, both a blessing and a curse. Mostly a blessing though. They gain the ability to spew clouds of necrotic gas which will affects friends and foes alike (aside from other death-blessed Stella) and their shroud can slice enemies with its scythe.

It has been a good while since I have played as them, but if I remember correctly they are unable to actually make steel, despite the option being present on workshops. Alternatively, it may be a better alternative if you settle in an area where you do not have a flux stone layer, and thus cannot produce steel without trading.

Heya, I'm having trouble understanding why someone would want to create Stellate instead of just using Steel..? What's the benefit..? Thanks in advance! :cleanseal:

Just as a curiosity. Do the blessings work only for Stella? The raws seem to suggest that but I'm unsure. Asking with the thought of playing another race and buying blessing fruits.

@Curious: I always felt like they looked best living in above ground towns and cities like humans. But the gems they want are underground, so I guess they'd be sending out expedition forces like the Player Fort to acquire them.

I like to try to build my Observatories on the surface, but it's not required. Just makes sense, since they're reading stars and stuff lol.

I'm wondering, do you vision this species as living above ground, underground, a mix of both, what's your view on how their 'settlements' would/SHOULD be?

I did it again! I accidentally procrastinated for an entire month!!! DX
I'm sorry everybodyyyyyyy!!!!

@Empereur Raf- I got a fix in the works, I've just been bad about finishing it up.
(I had posted this in one of the Discussions threads instead of here... I'm not sure why.)

I did not realize I had procrastinated so long >_>;; oops.

Some suggestion on how to make the mod playable in the latest version ? since it's seem there some tinkering to do to make it work.
2chuu4u Mar 4 @ 10:18pm
@Setenta- that's weird. I hadn't played them in a while and I didn't notice.
I can't think of what is causing it, but I'll try to look into it in the coming days. Otherwise the Kitfox Discord has a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people there who can help with bug hunting. I'll probably end up asking for help there myself.
