Alpha Smoke was inspired by an idea from XCom: UFO Defense, where smoke breaks Line of Sight from other units (Aliens, Humans, etc.). While it is impossible to even change Line of Sight rules or dynamically change an obstable to block LOS, I feel like this is a good compromise between those elements.

As always, stats can be edited in XComDLC_AlphaSmoke.ini and XComGameData.ini.

Smoke Grenades are neutral items. It grants +20 Defense Buff but a -20 Aim malus while in smoke.

In addition, anyone in Alpha Smoke has immunity to Overwatch, Suppression, Close Quarters Specialist, or any of its derivatives, but cannot perform said abilities while under cover of smoke (vanilla-wise). It's redesigned as both an offensive and defensive tool used for more creative strategies: Use it to deny enemies Overwatch or Suppression, or to better approach a target while in Smoke.

Some caveats:

• You must be in smoke initially to get the overwatch immunity.
  
• You can go through smoke without ever triggering overwatch.
  
• Overwatch will trigger on the very exact tile that does not have smoke.
  
• You cannot be outside of the tile that doesn't have smoke and cross through smoke to get the immunity if the enemy unit has full view of the cloud of smoke.
  
• Overwatch, Suppression, Return Fire, Close Quarters Specialist, or any Overwatch derivatives are disabled while in smoke, at least basegame wise. Custom mod abilities are not supported out of the box.

• Do not run this mod with any other mod that also edits the Smoke Grenade. It will cause issues or crash.

• Fix some bugs, if any.

• If unsure, read the description of the other mods or pray, whichever is easier.

Q: Does this work with a current save?

A: Yes, it should work out of the box, BUT not during a tactical save. Enable this mod when you are back in Strategy.

Q: Vanilla version?

A: Not really, no.
