WWW v2 has arrived!




Become a pioneer of the World Wide Web. This mod allows you to develop a multitude of software and technologies. There are currently 46 software types, I plan to add more in the future.

How The Play The Mod:
Most software types have their price set to $10, this prevents the AI companies from going bankrupt since they can't develop level 3 technology. You can make money on these software types by adding level 3 tech. You can earn money through subscriptions, selling userdata, displaying ads, and various other methods. All level 3 tech uses different amounts of bandwidth, but they also provide a fixed monthly income. This income could range from $0.25 to $30 per user a month. But be careful, selling userdata or participating in unethical business practices could land you in a lawsuit and mark the downfall of your company.

Update 1.6, which includes 5 new software types:
Music Streaming Site (Spotify)
Travel Site (Trivago)
Language Learning Site (Duolingo)
URL Shortener (bitly)
VPN (NordVPN)

Update 1.5, which includes 5 new software types:
WWW Languages (Javascript / Go)
Markup Languages (HTML)
Stylesheet Languages (CSS)
Video Streaming Platform (Twitch)
Video Sharing Platform (YouTube)
All website software types now have a WWW Lang, Markup, and Stylesheet dependency.
(Frameworks for www lang and stylesheets are coming soon)

Update 1.4, which includes 6 new software types:
Advertising Platform (Google Ads)
Blogging Site (Blogger)
Forum Software (Invision Community / XenForo)
Payment Gateway (Paypal / Stripe)
Website Builder (Weebly / Wix)
Version Control Site (Github / Gitlab)

Update 1.3, which includes 3 new software types:
eCommerce Site (Amazon / Newegg)
Conference Site (Zoom / Microsoft Teams)
Wiki Site (Wikipedia / Fandom)

Update 1.2, which includes 5 new software types:
Cloud Storage Service (Google Drive / Dropbox)
Online Delivery Service (UberEats / DoorDash)
Ridesharing Service (Uber / Lyft)

“OSSupport Browser” would work for the websites similar to other software. ill give this a test run in a bit

Interesting, I might take a look at the vanilla code and see if you can force it to only accept specific "OS" and include browsers as OS with something defining them, as to only allow them to be used for Websites and normal OS' to be used for other software

I could do a weird implementation of making the browser be in the OS category but im not sure

That is possible and actually a pretty good idea. I might add that into the v2 overhaul of this mod. The only issue is you can’t add multiple browsers like you can with operating systems.

Hey Relish, have you looked into if it's possible to develop websites for specific browsers, like how you add OS support, adding browser support instead? I don't know if it's possible but it would be interesting to see.

I mostly looked at the ingame software and wiki to find out how it works. The scripting is similar to C#, so if you know the basics of that you should be able to do understand it.

If you want to go even further in depth, you can enter LIST_SCOPE_MEMBERS into the ingame console and it will list all of the stuff you can mess around with. You have to go into the keymapping settings in order to set a key to access the console.

Do you have any guides or resources you used to learn all the methods and variables for coding the level 3 features?

I've been working on my own small mod and have found looking at your code to be way more helpful in learning how the game works then anything on the modding wiki.

Quick update: Planning to completely rewrite this mod and reupload it as a separate mod. The new version should be better organized, having all websites being under a "Website" category. I will also try to balance the mod better.
