Description
Boom's Scotland Rework

Scotland is like a throwback to Civ 5. A science focused civ which wants to play tall to conserve amenities. Unfortunately, they are quite a dull civ. Bannockburn and the Highlander are basically useless in a typical game, and the Golf Course, while powerful, comes quite late in the civics tree in a weird position, leaving Scotland with one ability for the majority of the game.

Thus, in this mod, I aim to rework the unhealthy Casus Belli leader ability, which is mostly useless but situationally abusable, and make the Golf Course come earlier but require more planning to use effectively.

Bannockburn has been totally reworked to an internal trade bonus, sparing Scotland from a war bonus that may drain their amenities, and encouraging peaceful sim. The Golf Course is now unlocked at Games and Recreation and provides stronger yields but also requires more planning.

Leader Ability: Bannockburn
  • Renamed to Flower of Scotland
  • Old War of Liberation ability completely removed. Replaced with +1 Production and Science on internal trade routes per district in the receiving city

Unique Improvement: Golf Course
  • Now unlocked at Games and Recreation
  • Provides 1 amenity, with an additional one if adjacent to an Entertainment Complex or Water Park
  • Provides +1 Food, +1 Production, +1 Culture, +2 Gold base yields
  • Receives +1 Culture if adjacent to a Water Park or Entertainment Complex

Compatibility
This mod is most likely not compatible with other mods that change the Golf Course, but should be ok with ones that change or add things to Bannockburn. If you run into an incompatibility please tell me and I will try to update this mod and fix it.

Special thanks as always to p0kiehl for helping me code this.
Please feel free to leave feedback about compatibility, balance, bugs or anything else you would like to say to me :). Please enjoy my Scotland rework!

Not sure if it just doesn't show in the text, but it wasn't showing any difference for the golf course.

One of the better Civ rework mods I've seen. Well done, Boom. Makes Scotland a very useful and strong civ, while not being overpowered or completely changing its original design.

I'm glad you enjoy it! Be sure to check out my Persia rework too I got rid of the Surprise War mechanic :p

and I have not considered that but I will add that on within the next few days I suppose, definitely would be fair.

This is excellent & I have been looking for a decent Scot rework for years.

Have you considered giving that adjacent bonus to Water Parks as well?

Thank you so much. Not a big fan of casus belli's.

Well, this is more specific to me, but I made these mods to play in multiplayer with my friends as well, and having a useless bonus or one that shuts down other players unfairly is something I would rather avoid. In my future reworks I will probably remove all of the war declaration bonuses one by one. Just a personal design philosophy of mine that wardec bonuses are kind of lame and boring too.

Why not make him like Australia-give him a defensive war bonus?
